Topic: Duiker

  AWF: Wildlife: Duiker
Duikers are small antelopes that inhabit forest or dense bushland.
Duiker horns are small and spikelike, lying so flat against the head that they are not too useful in fighting.
Duiker pairs devote a great deal of time to grooming one another's heads, which apparently aids in bonding pairs; it may also help individuals recognize their own species and discourage interbreeding with others.

 African Forest - Duiker
Red flanked duikers are found in thick vegetation near permanent sources of water such as springs within rocky areas and along the forest edge within the savanna.
The smallest of the duikers is the blue duiker, which in East Africa is found in Uganda, western Kenya, and parts of Tanzania.
All duikers are somewhat dependent on monkeys, birds, and fruit bats to dislodge the fruit they eat from the forest floor.

 Animal Info - Jentink's Duiker
Jentink's duiker is either solitary or occurs in pairs.
Jentink's duiker was already considered rare in 1888, although it was reportedly common in Sierra Leone at the turn of the century.
Jentink's duiker is mainly frugivorous, but during the rainy season, between May and October, the forest produces few fruits; therefore, Jentink's duiker comes out of the forest at night and feeds on shoots of shrubs and young trees.
