Duk Koo Kim 김득구 (1959-1982) was a South Korean boxer whose death changed the sport of boxing in many ways.

But to be honest, it's not really so much about Duk Koo Kim as it is a reflection on immortality and the love that allows us to face the inevitable, that we come to need every bit as much as the air we breathe.
He also dreams of being "lost in war", unable to feel his feet or hands, knowing that he was dying, "but an angel came down", he says, "and brought me back to you".
It just seems to me that the tragedy of Duk Koo Kim is the inspiration for these reflections on death and how the Grim Reaper could care less about his victim's ambitions, aspirations or anything else he might have going for himself in life.

I thought that it was a great war, with Kim taking an early lead and then Mancini getting stronger (or Kim getting weaker) as the fight moved on.
Although, by the thirteenth round, it had become abundantly clear that Mancini was dominating (e.g., the knockdown in--if I remember correctly--the eleventh round), I thought that Kim still had a puncher's chance.
Kim Duk-koo shouldn't have been in that match.

Well, once I did this, it became clear that the song is less about Duk Koo Kim and more about someone feeling the same kind of extremely tragic loss--a loss so great that they feel they cannot go on without the person.
Mark's words indicate that he felt the same impact as what happened to Duk Koo Kim and those close to him.
It was one of those strange moments when you are just a kid and for a moment you feel like an adult because of such a sobering tragedy.

I barely remember the fight between Mancini and him but Kim Du Koo's story was such a sad one.
Kim hurt Mancini a few times in the fight, I was inclined to believe that he might have had the edge going into that fateful round.
He had seen a lot of Kim's prior fights and couldnt get over how his beatings of his opponents were so savage.

No prob Sir BC..and let me add that Duk Koo Kim's mom committed suiced few weeks after the death of her beloved son.
This ref could have stop the fight earlier than 14th, perhaps he was being haunted by this so he decided to end his life.

Both versions of Duk Koo Kim are around 10 minutes long, so think of it as a dollar a minute.

 Sad Reminders / Duk Koo Kim 10"
Heres a question I hear people talking about the # on their 10" well I dont see any #'s on either copy of my Duk Koo Kim to find out what # it is out of 2000.
I also have two copies of the Duk Koo Kim 10" and Ocean beach.
I guess I dont need them, but they are kind of like an insurance plan.....if something happens to one, I have another for back up.
