These changes are, of course, fully consonant with the simultaneous militiarization of Luo Yue society and occur for many of the same reasons, though the closer proximity of the Xi Ou to the military labor markets of Chu make the process far more obvious among them.
Later Zhuang names are sometimes compounded of two patronymics, suggesting that the Zhuang early used the equivalent of hyphenating the clan names of fathers and mothers, producing a name such as Huang-Nong to indicate both maternal and paternal lines.
The Zhuang were particularly noted for the excellence of their crossbow forces, often firing deadly poisoned arrows, and for their highly disciplined squads of javelin throwers---specialized units no doubt familiar to their Yue precursors as well.

Duke Huan, thanks to his virtue, was their model and submitted all of them.

Duke Wen of Jin established a new friendly alliance during the meeting at Jiantu 踐土 (modern Yingze 滎澤/Henan) with the seven most important states, in the same year, at Wen 溫 (modern Wenxian 溫縣/Henan) the King of Zhou sanctified the new overlord hegemon.

Gong Zi Zhong Er became Duke of Jin (Jin Wen Gong, ?-628 B.C.) in 636 B.C. Jin lead the rest of the kingdoms and defeated Chu in the Battle of Cheng Pu (632 B.C.) and became a power.
Zhuang Xiang Wang became the king of the Qin (249 B.C.).

As a youth he probably was a student of Zhuang Zun, a reclusive marketplace fortune teller who refused to take office, opting instead to use divination and fortune-telling as a means to encourage virtue among the common people.
Given the location of this passage at the very end of the text, some have considered it to be a forgery.
