The Most Noble Lt.-Col. Sir John George Stewart-Murray, 8th Duke of Atholl KT CB DSO GCVO PC ADC (December 15, 1871 – March 16, 1942) was a British peer and soldier, known as the Marquess of Tullibardine from 1871 to 1917.
Lord Tullibardine was born in 1871 at Blair Castle, Perthshire, the son of John Stewart-Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl and was educated at Eton College.
In 1942, the Duke of Atholl died, aged 70, without issue and his titles passed to his brother, James Stewart-Murray.

John Murray, b.30 June 1755, d.1830, eldest son of John, 3rd Duke of Atholl, who had been the last Atholl Lord of Man before selling the regalities at the Revestment.
The report backed the Duke's contention that the original purchase price was too low but pointed out that most of the revenues were due to smuggling activities.
However it was the appointment of his young nephew as Bishop in 1814 and the latter's insensitive attempt to extract £6,000 pa from the tithes at the period when agriculture was depressed that finally provoked riots and the departure of both Bishop and Duke.

The last of the earls of Atholl of the Royal Celtic line died before 1211 and the earldom was passed through the female line to David of Strathbogie whose family forfeited the title following its opposition to Robert the Bruce (1274 - 1329).
For his support of the Royalist cause during the Civil War, the 5th Earl was created Marquis of Atholl and in 1702 his son was created first Duke of Atholl by Queen Anne for his loyalty to the government against the Jacobites.
The celebrated fiddler Neil Gow (1727 - 1807) was musician to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Dukes of Atholl.
