		The Dumas Brothel (formerly the Dumas Hotel) was a famous bordello in Butte, Montana in the United States.
		The Dumas was the largest, grandest and perhaps best-known bordello among many located in Butte’s previously thriving "Red Light" District.
		The house was built in 1890 in a Victorian Brothel style and is the last example of that type of architecture known to exist in the United States.

		The name "Venus Alley" came from the rear entrance of the famous Dumas Brothel, one of the longest running houses of prostitution in the U.S. The brick-lined alley was lined with "cribs", overhung with a single white light bulb over each entrance.
		The north side of the alley was lined with the famous "double-deckers", where the alley-level cribs were surmounted by a wooden planks and a second row of cribs.
		The structure of the Dumas Brothel, as well as the brick-lined alley, still stands in uptown Butte and has become a tourist attraction.

		Rudy Giecek says the building he has owned the past 15 years won't open for this year's tourist season.
		Giecek said the cost of refurbishing the building, coupled with outstanding back taxes and liens, have made it difficult to sell, and he expects it will become property of the city because he can't meet his tax obligations.
