Dumbarton Express buses utilize a two-mile HOV lane to bypass traffic at the Dumbarton toll plaza, saving an average of 16 minutes with each westbound morning trip.
There are other “express” routes in the Bay Area which have limited stops and serve passengers traveling longer distances, but which do not benefit from the use of HOV lanes.

The frequency of the popular Baby Bullet express trains was increased in order to bring in additional revenues; two express trains were added in May and another ten were added in August.
Caltrain is also served by AC Transit from Hayward at the Hillsdale station (Line M), Dumbarton Express from Union City at Palo Alto, Highway 17 Express bus from Santa Cruz at San Jose, as well as San Benito County Express from Hollister and Monterey-Salinas Transit from Monterey County at Gilroy.

The Dumbarton Rail Corridor (DRC) is an 11-mile corridor linking rail corridors in Alameda County with the Peninsula Caltrain Corridor, crossing San Francisco Bay just south of the Dumbarton Bridge.
Dumbarton Rail would provide a link between BART, Altamont Commuter Express (ACE), and The Capitol trains in the East Bay with Caltrain, BART, and San Jose Light Rail on the peninsula.

Based on the results of the survey, there are currently 60+ employees who ride Caltrain between 3-5 days a week and approximately 10+ who would use the Dumbarton Express or Highway 17 Express if the pass was made available.
To upgrade the Eco Pass to include the Caltrain, Dumbarton Express, and Highway 17 Express would be $65.00 per employee, or $62,075.00, for a difference of $42,075.

After searching all summer, San Mateo's bus service, SamTrans, has located four buses to be used for a new Dumbarton Express shuttle service that will serve east Menlo Park soon.
The shuttle will run from the Union City BART station in the East Bay and across the Dumbarton Bridge into the Menlo Park industrial complexes east of U.S. Service will most likely start by mid-September, said SamTrans senior planner Jason Munkrest.
The shuttle will be the third Dumbarton Express route that AC Transit operates from the Union City BART station to Menlo Park.
