Dumont d'Urville Station on Antarctica is also named after him.
Rear Admiral Jules Sébastien César Dumont d'Urville (May 23, 1790 – May 8, 1842) was a French explorer and naval officer, who explored the south and western Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, and Antarctica.

Long term air and snowfall chemistry measurements have been performed at the three coastal antarctic stations Dumont d'Urville, Neumayer and Halley.
At Dumont d'Urville Station, samples have been collected for 4 years, at Halley Station for 2 years, and at Neumayer Station for 12 years.
In this study the 3-hourly synoptic surface observations taken at the three stations between 1991 and 1995, as well as the daily upper air soundings from 1993, are analyzed to describe the aspects of station climatologies relevant for the air and snowfall chemistry measurements.

B15G has been drifting slowly from east to west with the ocean current known as the East Wind Drift and passed the French Antarctic station, Dumont DUrville in August 2004.
Station leader Jeremy Smith says that B15G is clearly visible as a long ice cliff stretching along the horizon.
Dr Smith says that a mathematically-minded wag on station has calculated that the iceberg comprises more than 220 cubic km of ice, enough for 15,000,000,000,000,000 (or 15 thousand million, million) ice cubes.

Bears on Ice - Australian Antarctic Aviation
The Hillers were used near Dumont dUrville and in the Casey area – one crashed and totalled in katabatic winds on coastal ice cliffs on the Vandeford Glacier – pilot Peter Ivanoff and his passenger were uninjured.
One mission sighted the area where Casey is now and also the Bunger Hills one of the potential sites for a Blue-ice runway (the Apfel Glacier); another mission made the aerial photos which Phillip Law subsequently used to locate the site for the establishment of Mawson station.
These included transporting summer expeditioners and supplies from a temporary airfield on an ice floe near the MV Icebird to Davis station, about 140nm distant, and doing similar work at Mawson from the edge of the fast ice into the station, as well as setting up a summer party in the Prince Charles Mountains.

The katabatic flows largely dominate the climate and wind regime in the meteorological station of Dumont d'Urville (hereafter DdU) in Adelie Land, East Antarctica.
A typical VNL katabatic wind profile is given as an example in Figure 11a for August 6, 1993 between 10:00 to 11:00 L.T. In Figure 12 the facsimile representation is shown for the same period.
The katabatic wind regime at DdU is dominated by the half-yearly variations of surface pressure in middle and high southern latitude.

 Sodar in Antarctica
The katabatic flows largely dominate the climate and wind regime in the meteorological station of Dumont d'Urville (hereafter DdU) in Adelie Land, East Antarctica.
As Adelie Land is a region where katabatic winds are among the strongest and more frequently observed in Antarctica, it can be expected that the observed vertical velocity reflects the subsidence associated with this meridional circulation.
Indeed, the SH is strongly correlated with the arrival and departure at the island of a large group of Adelie penguins.
