Edgar L. "Dunc" Gray (July 17, 1906 - 30 August 1996) was a track cyclist from Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia who won Australia's first Olympic Games medal in cycling at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam: a bronze medal for the 1000m Time Trial.
In his last years, Dunc Gray lived in Kiama and devoted energy to supporting the Olympic movement, including Melbourne's bid for the 1996 Summer Olympics and then for Sydney's successful bid for the 2000 Summer Olympics.
The Dunc Gray velodrome at Bass Hill, in Sydney's western suburbs, built for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, was named after this iconic Australian cyclist.

Until the time Dunc died at 91 years of age he was actively involved in preparations for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, and I have a deep regret that he did not live to celebrate the Games.
Dunc’s family have asked me to say that if within the precincts of the new Olympic village some kind of museum were to be established they would be proud to provide, on the basis of a permanent loan, his medals and the memorabilia he accumulated over his long sporting career.

Edgar 'Dunc' Gray became Australia’s first Olympic cycling gold medallist when he won the 1000 metres time trial at the Los Angeles Games in 1932.
He was selected for the team because he won the Australian one-mile championship, and allocated the time trial because another rider was preferred for the sprint.
Gray was the only cyclist chosen in Australia’s 12-person team for Los Angeles, and was entered for both the sprint and the time trial.

Gray went to three Olympics, in 1928, '32 and '36, winning bronze at his first games, gold in his second and carrying the flag in Berlin in 1936.

The 2001 Roller Sports Australia National Championships for Speed and Artistic was held at the Dunc Gray Velodrome in Bass Hill, Sydney NSW from September 30th to October 6th.
There had been a lot of discussion regarding the surface at Dunc Gray, in fact the board viewed the site at the 2001 NSW State Championship and agreed unanimously that the concrete surface was not suitable for a national championships.
In order to ensure a quality surface for the competitors, the skating surface was the QFRS wooden floor from Homebush (used at a previous national championships) laid on top of the concrete surface.
