Despite winning the 1966 Memorial Cup, Edmonton Oil Kings owner, Bill Hunter, was growing concerned about the state of junior hockey in western Canada.
The WHL would later rename the award for Most Valuable Player as the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy in their honor.
The Kelowna Rockets may become the third dynasty, as they try to qualify for the Memorial Cup for the fourth straight season in 2005-06, winning two WHL titles in 2003 and 2005, and winning the Memorial Cup as host city in 2004.

In the Silvertips' inaugural season in the U.S. Division of the WHL, they broke multiple records for an expansion team in its first year.
Constantine received the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy from the league as the 2003-2004 Coach of the Year.
In the playoffs in 2004, the Silvertips swept the Spokane Chiefs 4-0 in the first round of the playoffs, and defeated the Vancouver Giants in the second round 4 games to 2.

American based teams have captured the Memorial Cup on three different occaisions with the Winter Hawks winning in 1983 and in 1998 while the Spokane Chiefs were the winners in 1991.

March 17th, 2004: The 2003-2004 U.S. Division Champion, Everett Silvertips, received a few Western Hockey League honors on Wednesday as Silvertips Head Coach, Kevin Constantine is one of two finalists for the Dunc McCallum Memorial Trophy for Coach of the Year.
Constantine has guided the first year hockey club to their first U.S. Division regular season title in their first year in the WHL with a 35-27-8-2 record along with 80 points which is most by an expansion franchise in the Canadian Hockey League.
