September 7, 2004---Nancy Duncan, one of the Nebraska Art Council's star teaching artists, a recipient of several NAC artist fellowships, and winner of the 2004 Governor's Distinguished Artist Award, died early September 6 from complications due to cancer.
As she stated in a November 2003 interview with the Nebraska Arts Council: "The essence of therapy is storytelling." This philosophy was the backdrop to a number of her moving tales, including an honest discussion of alcoholic parents and most recently, stories addressing her illness.
Prior to her work for Nebraska StoryArts, Duncan served as the Associate Director of the Omaha Community Playhouse in the 70's and was one of the founding members of the Emmy Gifford Children's Theater in Omaha, and served as their Artistic Director/Executive Director from 1976-1986.
