The mission of the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown is to serve its students and the community by meeting the skills needs in the economy and increasing the level of participation in third-level education and training in Dublin North-West and its environs.
Dundalk Institute of Technology was established in 1970, autonomous since January 1993 and designated an Institute of Technology in 1998; it provides education and training in business, engineering, science, computing, nursing studies, hospitality and applied cultural studies at a variety of levels, including degree, national diploma and national certificate and through full-time and part-time programmes.
Institute of Technology Tralee was established in 1977 and is a university level institution with a range of programmes from craft to postgraduate level.

We are dealing with the Comptroller and Auditor General's report on the annual financial statements for 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 of the Carlow Institute of Technology, the Dundalk Institute of Technology, the Letterkenny Institute of Technology and the Tallaght Institute of Technology and the Comptroller and Auditor General's general report on the education sector.
As was the case in Carlow, the institute was established as an autonomous institution on 1 January 1993.
I am aware of one other institute in the sector which is involved in one of the pilot projects under the PPP arrangements for the construction of a particular faculty but in Dundalk we have not had that experience.

Other prizes were spread across the country with William Rafferty representing Institute of Technology Tallaght winning the 2001 Intel Excellence in Electronics competition with a prize of £1000 and second prize of £600 going to Niall McCurry representing Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology.
A total of 9 Institutes of Technology from around the country participated in the competition; Blanchardstown, Letterkenny, Galway/Mayo, Sligo, Tralee, Waterford, Dundalk, Tallaght and Athlone.
Each Institute of Technology held local competitions in February and the winner from each competition went on to the finals held in Blanchardstown Institute of Technology.
