In February, 1873, he was appointed county crown attorney and clerk of the peace for the united Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, and he has now held the position longer than any of his predecessors.
There are between 300 and 400 qualified justices of the peace in these united counties, and the work of the two offices of county crown attorney and clerk of the peace for a population of upwards of 70,000 is necessarily large and varied.
In 1880 he was appointed by the counties’ council a trustee of the Cornwall High school, the object of his appointment being to ferret out and put an end to certain improper financing of the then board, and he accomplished the object aimed at by the council, and has remained on the board ever since.

On the 26th of November, Lieutenants of the counties in Upper Canada were directed to call out the militia, and by volunteers or by ballot to form detachments of one-quarter of the whole, which, after being inspected and dismissed, were to be held in readiness to assemble at an hour’s notice.

 Dundas mayor upset with County Board
DUNDAS -- Dundas mayor Myron Malecha let the city council and public know just how angry he was with the Rice County Board of Commissioners during the council's regular meeting, Monday.
The Rice County Board passed a 3-to-1 motion Tuesday, Nov. 23, to zone the area west of Interstate 35 between County Road 1 and Highway 19 for commercial use, even though the item was not placed on the board's agenda.
Neuville said the county board approved both properties for public purpose, and the council could expect the deed to be set by Jan. 15 for the kor-ethanol site.

One-hundred and fifty-nine years ago today, the Village of Dundas was finally elevated to the status of town when the Act of Incorporation (10/11 Victoria, Chapter xlv), enacted by Parliament, received Royal Assent on July 28, 1847.
At the first meeting of the Dundas Town Council in downtown Dundas on April 23, 1848, a fifth councillor, John Paterson, was appointed by the others and elected "president of the council" -- effectively, the town's first mayor.
Petitions for incorporation and a campaign to establish Dundas as a county town were renewed, but were again unsuccessful, as Barton Township (Hamilton) was chosen as the County Town for the new Gore County.

Henry Dundas took a very hard line against the Americans after the war which was further entrenched by the American mistreatment of the loyalists.

Dundas retreated on the night of the battle.
Any who escaped fled to Knockaulin Hill which is very close to Castlemartin and remained there for a couple of weeks, however, in the end they surrendered to Dundas.

 James Leitch
Leitch, James, Barrister, Cornwall, Ontario, was born on the 2nd June, 1850, at the South Branch, in the.
Leitch was retained for the defence, in the Smith murder trial, and being largely instrumental in securing the acquittal of the prisoner, he established a reputation which at once brought him a large practice.
Leitch was elected reeve of the town of Cornwall for the year 1884, and was a candidate for the wardenship of the united counties for that year, but was defeated by F.D. McNaughton, by a majority of one vote.

This report takes that possible use a stage further, and considers whether the whole of the Dundas Meadows site might not provide new public playing fields to be leased by the County to Portsmouth City Council and managed by them as a public facility, regardless of the Football Club proposals.
To give the City Council management control of the land would obviously relieve the County Council of a maintenance obligation, although the figures involved are not substantial.
The Dundas Meadow site is one possible site which is under consideration, and one of only two currently in County Council ownership (the other being Tangier Road).

In the Act of 1798, proclaimed in 1800, the Counties of Leeds, Grenville and Carleton were separated out of the Eastern District to become the Johnstown District.
In March of 1816, the counties of Prescott and Russell became the Ottawa District.
As of January 1850 all Districts were abolished and the Eastern District became the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry and remain the United Counties to this day.

The Archdiocese of Kingston comprises the territory from the eastern line of Dundas County to the western boundary of Hastings County in the Province of Ontario, Canada, and includes the Counties of Addington, Dundas, Frontenac, Grenville, Hastings, Lanark, Leeds, Lennox, and Prince Edward.
The Right Rev. J.V. Cleary, at one time president of St. John's College, Waterford, Ireland, had been consecrated in Rome, 21 Nov., 1880, to succeed Bishop O'Brien, and when the diocese was made an archdiocese by a Brief dated 28 July, 1889, he became the first archbishop.
With the formation of the archdiocese the Counties of Glengarry, Stormont, and Cornwall were separated from the Diocese of Kingston, erected into the separate Diocese of Alexandria, which, with the Diocese of Peterborough, became suffragan of Kingston.
