  Mongolia Web News - Dundgobi Camel Polo Championship
The National Camel Polo Championship has been successfully organized in Dundgobi Aimag by the Governor s Office of the Aimag and the Mongolian Camel Polo Association.
The team from Delgerkhangai soum of Dundgobi Aimag won the first place at the championship held for two days in three stages; inter-teams competition, semi-final and final.
The championship was sponsored by the Dundgobi Development Association NGO.

The nine aimags are: Darkhan Uul, Dornod, Dundgobi, Uvurhangai, Khovd, Husgul, Orhon, Umnugobi, and Selenge.
In Dundgobi the network focused on: i) improving CSO network management capacity and sustainability; ii) improving its relationship with the local government and businesses; iii) promoting active participation of the citizens in social life and their civic education; and iv) strengthening citizen monitoring of government services through partnership with local media and the citizens' khural.
Nyamgerel, conducted an assessment of the TAN funded projects in Dundgobi on 9-13 Aug. The purpose was to assess the level of citizens' participation in the community projects, and methods used by the local CSOs to involve residents in project planning and throughout the implementation process.

His livestock are dying every day from hunger and cold in Dundgobi, one of Mongolia's worst-hit disaster areas.
In March the state governor of Dundgobi province, estimated that it would cost USD 17 million alone to replace the 480,000 dead livestock in his province.
With numbers of dead livestock predicted to increase until the summer, the situation facing Mongolia is very serious indeed.

Eighty children from World Vision's project in Delgerkhangai will now have a place to sleep when they go to school, saving them from having to travel long distances from their nomadic herding families to study.
The district, located in Dundgobi province, has suffered high dropout rates among children from herding families, largely due to a lack of dormitory facilities for them to stay in.
Adiya, the governor of the Dundgobi province, said that this is an important day for the people of Delgerkhangai.

World Vision has been working in Mongolia since 1993 in the fields of primary health care, nutrition, crop production, livestock management, early childhood development, care for children in difficult circumstances, forestry and disaster response.
In 1998, World Vision-Mongolia decided to consolidate individual development projects into geographical units called area development programmes, which generally have a target population of 25 000 or more.
World Vision-Mongolia is currently implementing the Disaster Rehabilitation and Food Security Project in Dundgobi and Kharkhorin, assisting 1 600 families.

Mongolian herdsmen, physically and mentally exhausted from a severe winter that has killed 1.7 million of their livestock, could face starvation unless aid gets to them quickly, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Cross Societies warned today.
"Herdsmen's lives are based on livestock and without animals they have no life," says Urjin Sandag, Director of the Mongolian Red Cross in Dundgobi, one of the provinces worst affected by heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures and the consequent loss of animals.
Nearly 400,000 people have been affected by the worst multiple disaster in Mongolia in 30 years and in response to the scale of it, the International Federation has revised the appeal launched on 22 February up to 4 million Swiss francs.

Our third major project - funded by WSPA (see their page) - began late in 2003 with 2 mobile vet units bringing veterinary aid to thousands of horses in 2 northern provinces (Bulgan and Khuvsgul).
From 2004 onwards we extended this project to Dundgobi - a desert region with sparse vegetation, and similar veterinary needs.
In 2007 we treated 49,000 horses in these 3 provinces, each receiving a spring and an autumn inoculation.

Our well-renovation programme was seen as a good cause for Rotary to support, and their UK District 1080 (East Anglia) agreed to sponsor Ben for £1,200.
He teamed up with Nic Smalle and Anth Georgiades to drive a "clapped-out" Fiat Panda to UB, then to travel down to the well location in Dundgobi and erect a plaque provided by Rotary, next to the well.
Clapped-out or not, the team reached UB around mid-August.

 World Vision Taiwan Donates Eight Million Dollars Worth of Rice to Mongolia | Christianpost.com
To increase the food security of vulnerable families and prepare them for the coming winter months, World Vision Taiwan recently donated 10,000 metric tons of rice to the country.
According to the Christian relief and development organization, the program will be conducted in the provinces of Uvukhangai, Dundgobi, Darkhan-Uul, Orkhon, Bulgan, and Selenge, as well as in the five districts of Ulaanbaatar.
Each family will receive 50 kilograms of rice for four consecutive months, bringing the total to two hundred kilograms of rice per family.

I have continued to teach each weekend whilst in Ulaanbaatar and the numbers increase each year.
My teaching visits again have included the women's prison, Hurjitt and Shank Monasteries in Ovorkhangaii aimag, Undershill Dundgobi aimag, and Lam rim Retreat center in Terelj.
The monasteries struggle continually to re-establish themselves but with help from the Buddhist Churches of America, a roof has now been donated for the new monastery at Hurjitt.
