Dundrum, or the Fort on the Ridge, which lies to the west of Stillorgan and south-west of Donnybrook, still possesses remains of a castle, occupying, possibly, the site of the dun or fort from which the place derives its name.
The lands of Dundrum were similarly situated to those of Carrickmines, on the very extremity of the lands to the south of Dublin, afterwards enclosed within the Pale, and suffered severely by the raids of the Irish enemies of the Crown.
The principal resident at Dundrum in the latter half of the eighteenth century was the brother of the first Earl of Lanesborough, the Hon.

Dundrum (Dún Droma in Irish), originally a town in its own right, is now a suburb in south Dublin, Ireland.
It is known as Dundrum Town Centre and is said to be the biggest shopping centre in Europe and within the complex is one the largest cinemas in Ireland opened in early October 2005.
The original village clustered around Dundrum Castle (now in ruins), which was built in the 13th century as part of the defences around Dublin.
