The SF Site Featured Review: Dune: The Battle of Corrin
The Battle of Corrin follows up on The Butlerian Jihad and The Machine Crusade as the third in a trilogy of novels, collectively titled Legends of Dune, that both take their cues from the six Dune books by Frank Herbert, and provide a platform and more detailed back-story for the original novels.
Much of The Battle of Corrin takes place nearly a century after The Machine Crusade, but Herbert and Anderson provide narrative continuity in the person of Vorian Streides, whose father (a cyborg tyrant who has taken the name Agamemnon for himself) subjected him to a thinking machine-developed cure for aging long ago.
At the age of 112, Vorian still looks about thirty (and his libido, as attested to by the many children he has sired around the galaxy, has stayed as youthful and vital as the rest of him).

The humans make a last stand at Corrin, but they are not only reeling from the plague infested deaths, they are divided, weakening them further.
Jihad leader Varian Atreides claims rival Abulurd Harkonnen acted cowardly; thus both major houses are ready to battle one another at a time when unity is the only hope.

Aside from that, The Battle of Corrin is quite good if you’re open to Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s take on the Dune universe.
If you were at least moderately interested in what they previously had to offer though, then The Battle of Corrin might be something that whets your appetite.
With The Butlerian Jihad and The Machine Crusade as the titles of the other books in the trilogy, it seems anti-climatic to end it with something as mundane as The Battle of Corrin.
