The 'Return of the Earls' concept was born in 2002, when Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council embarked on a theme to promote reconciliation, regeneration and prosperity throughout the area in a unique form by encouraging community led projects and events which celebrate not only our shared history, but also our shared future.
Other Councils have created themes and projects to market their area, but Return of the Earls is now in its fifth year and has been extended to meet the anniversary associated with 2007.
Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council is the core funder of Return of the Earls and Dungannon 2007.

The Dungannon and South Tyrone area comprises the former districts of Dungannon Urban, Dungannon Rural, Clogher Rural and a small part of Armagh Rural.

The display depicts a series of images which relate to the Flight of the Earls across a range of mediums and was created by primary school children from St Patrick's PS and Dungannon Primary Schools.
The art exhibition was collated as part of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council's Return of the Earls Dungannon 2007 campaign and was co-ordinated by the Tyrone/Donegal Exploring Diversity Together programme.
This project is part financed by the European Union through the Exploring Diversity 07 and Beyond programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council.

Clarke was one of the main leaders and key figures in the 1916 Easter Rising and was executed by the British authorities on May 3rd at the age of 59 for his role in the rising.
Dungannon is the birthplace of professional golfer Darren Clarke, motorbike racer Ryan Farquhar, artist Victor Sloan, and TV presenters Adrian Logan and Joanne Salley.

 Borough council is coming south to fill up 14-11-02
A decision by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council to seek tenders for fuel from filling stations in the Republic has been strongly criticised by fuel retailers in the North.
Councillors passed a motion on Monday night 11th November opening the way for filling stations in the south to tender for the supply of council vehicles with petrol and diesel.
Supporters of the motion claim the council could save £60,000 per year if they sourced their fuel requirements in the south.

Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council said at least 15 refuse lorries and vans and other equipment worth hundreds of thousands of pounds were damaged at the depot in Dungannon.
Two security force yellow goddess crews attended the fire at the depot, but council officers said if firefighters had not left their picket line the damage would have been even more extensive.
Council officer Robert McMinn said he believed the fire in Dungannon was started deliberately.

This year, Dungannon faced opposition from Clonakilty in Co Cork, Ucleulet and St Walburg in Canada, Muskiz in Spain, Aylsham in England, and Tyri in Estonia.
Dungannon mayor Jim Hamilton said the award reflected the commitment of council to community involvement, sustainability and heritage management.
