Dungeon Master (computer game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dungeon Master was the first 3D realtime action computer role-playing game.
Dungeon Master was a realtime game instead of the traditional turn-based approach that was prevalent until then.
Dungeon Master received dozens of prestigious awards including the first ever Special Award for Artistic Achievement from Computer Gaming World (CGW) when it was initially released.

Dungeon Master II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dungeon Master II: The Legend of Skullkeep is the sequel to Dungeon Master.
It was released in 1993 in Japan and in 1995 in other countries.
Music: The game music is different in each version of the game: the PC version uses MIDI music (which therefore sounds differently on different sound cards), the Amiga version uses MODules, and the SegaCD version uses CD Audio tracks.

Dungeon Master download @ Game Downloads
Dungeon Master was the first game using the now famous game engine using the 3D view.
The premise, which isn't one of the game's strong points, is very tenuous and simple: you control a party of up to four adventurers of various races who must find their way through a 12-level dungeon and defeat its owner (an evil wizard, of course).
The game's anal-retentive attention to detail, such as the fact that you must always pay attention to your party members' thirst and hunger levels and feed them when necessary, may be a nuisance to beginners or casual RPGers, but for anal-retentive gamers, it's a dream come true.

Over the holidays I installed the original Dungeon Master to try to identify just what it was that captured the allegiance of so many roleplaying enthusiasts (me included); and to determine just how well a game that is now at least 10 years old, shapes up against the 'new kids on the block'.
Of course, roleplaying games have marched on since the mid 80s, and in many respects Dungeon Master shows its age, but, regardless, it is still an entertaining game, and it surely retains some of that power to ensnare.
The gameworld of Dungeon Master is quite large, even by today's standards, though, of course, it doesn't match some of the massive later roleplaying epics.

Dungeon Master, the original, has a special spot in our hearts and because of this Skullkeep was always likely to suffer in the comparison.
Another new addition to this game (as opposed to the first Dungeon Master) is the inclusion of area maps to help you find your way around.
In fact, throughout this game there are very few places of refuge where you won't get attacked and it would have been nice to have been able to sleep soundly or ponder over a puzzle occasionally without being continually harassed.

Chris Crawford (who is either a grandmaster designer of the computer game or the industry's village idiot, depending on who you talk to) once said something brilliantly ahead of its time about the mistakes inherently involved with translating a game from one medium to another (specifically electronic) medium.
The basics of the pen-and-paper game won't change, and the "soul" will be the same, but the new medium and format will have innovations and new aspects that I am sure will be most appealing...and prevent common abuses too.
In creating a new game I believe firmly that there must be one controlling force, one mind, as it were, even of that refers to two or three persons with a shared vision.

 BBC - h2g2 - Zork - the Computer Game
As soon as the game begins, you are reunited with the sword and lantern, and face a new task: defeating the capricious (and somewhat senile) Wizard of Frobozz and stealing his wand.
While this game is very similar to the first one in the method of game play (searching for various spells to give the player clues as to how you should advance), this game covers a wider variety of locations than Enchanter did, and magic potions are made available along with the standard spells.
At the climax of the game, you finally catch up with the shadowy figure from the game's beginning; and it turns out to be an evil shadow of yourself, brought about by all of the magic that the player has cast over the years.

Many early video game programmers who were fans of Dungeons & Dragons realized they could replace their fellow adventurers and the Dungeon Master with computer rule-keeping, storytelling software.
