Dungiven (Dún Geimhín in Irish, Given's fort) is a large village in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, on the main Belfast to Derry road.
Dungiven was the terminus of the Limavady railway closed in 1950.
Dungiven is classified as an intermediate settlement by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 2,250 and 4,500 people).

Dungiven Priory, signposted down a footpath half a mile out of the town towards Antrim, gives a taste of the pioneering life of the early Plantation settlers, and of the continuity of tradition.
The ruined Banagher Old Church, a couple of miles southwest of Dungiven, was founded in the twelfth century by St Muiredach O'Heney, who is buried in the well-preserved mortuary house built on a sandhill in the churchyard.

Kevin Lynch was born on May 25th, 1956, the youngest of a family of eight, in the tiny village of Park, eight miles outside Dungiven.
Following an ambush outside Dungiven, in November '76, in which an RUC man was slightly injured, the RUC moved against those it suspected to be INLA activists in the town.
Since they were sentenced in 1977, both Dungiven men suffered their share of brutality from Crumlin Road and Long Kesh prison warders, Kevin being 'put on the boards' for periods of up to a fortnight, three or four times.

Police in Limavady are appealing for witnesses to a car crash which killed two young boys.
It happened on the Ballyquin Road, Dungiven at around 1:15am on 1st April.
The boys aged 15 and 17 were travelling in a Ford Fiesta which was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra.
