	Dunnet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Dunnet (Ordnance Survey grid reference ND221713) is a village in Caithness, in the Highland area of Scotland.
		Dunnet Church is near the road junction and has documented history dating from 1230.
		Dunnet is at the north/northeast end of Dunnet Beach, which extends across three miles (five kilometres) towards Castletown (ND196678).

		Analysis of the sand fraction within the soils on Dunnet Links (Futty and Dry 1977) yields a high number of minerals which are found to be similar to those found in soils derived on Thurso flagstone.
		On the other hand it is also suggested (Ritchie and Mather 1970) that Dunnet Head acts as a large groyne preventing long-shore transport of local sediments and trapping them in the Dunnet Bay area, if this is the case then recently eroded sediments may continue to supplement sand supplies to the bay.
		At Dunnet the sea as it rose would have encroached further into the bay, possibly even pushing a series of earlier dune ridges before it if there was sufficient sediment available.

		In the spring of 1940 this scheme was extended to the north of Shetland and to the Pentland Firth.

		The Dunnet Head lighthouse was built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson, grandfather of the author Robert Louis Stevenson.

		The walk from the beach around the cliffs to Dunnet Head was along some beautiful moorland, and I cold make good progress along the ground, which was mostly level with only occasional climbs.
		Dunnet Head is the northernmost point on the mainland of Britain, and as such is the fourth cardinal point that I have visited on the walk, after the easternmost point (The Ness in Lowestoft), the southernmost (the Lizard), and the westernmost (Ardnamurchan Point).
		We spent the night in the car park beside the lighthouse at Dunnet Head, which had some superb view past the lighthouse to the Orkney Islands.

	Dunnet Beach, Caithness
		Alistair received a call from the Dunnet Bay caravan site warden around 6.30pm about a dolphin rolling about in the surf at Dunnet Beach.
		A call was put out to all BDMLR medics and the ambulance set off at once arriving at the stranding within 7 minutes.
		The rescue team eventually retired to bed at 7.00am and it is reported that the dolphin has not been seen since.

		Dunnet Regional Park Covers 50 acres of naturally treed valley, and is officially open from Victoria Day long weekend in May until the end of September; the season is sometimes extended if weather permits.
		Calling all fishermen: The damming of the creek created a fine reservoir that is liberally stocked with walleye, Jack, and Birch.
		A boat launch is available, free to registered campers, and there is a large parking area for trailers beside the reservoir.

	GM0b : CQ WW 2001 - Dunnet Head
		The contest group of the Mid Lanark Amateur Radio Society once again took part in the CQ WW SSB contest, but this year we operated from Dunnet Head, the most Northerly point on the British mainland.
		On the Monday after the contest it was strip down time and it took us most of the day to remove all evidence of our visit to Dunnet Head.
		I couldn't help but be interested in Dunnet Head as I spent time on my honeymoon in the coastguard cottages right at the end of Dunnet Head near the Orkney lookout point and the lighthouse.
