Dunquin shares close ties with the once-inhabited Blasket Islands as it was the nearest point on the mainland from which supplies were sent over to the islands.
The Blaskets also fell in under the same parish as Dunquin which is why the village is referred to as the "next parish to America".
Don't be surprised if there is no sailing to the island however as the conditions have to be fairly good in order for the boat to moor on the other side.

This trip is an introduction to the Dingle Peninsula (Corca Dhuibhne), starting from Tralee and taking a figure-of-eight route to see as much of the scenery as possible and learn something of the history of the area.
This used to be the landing place for the curraghs from the Blaskets, in the days before the islands were evacuated, and visitors can take a boat trip over to the islands from here.
The Blasket Centre at Dunquin has a fascinating exhibition of what life was like on the islands at one time.

It has further sought the extension of the existing pier at Ballylickeen Commons in Dunquin under Section 226, Subsection 1 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 to 2002.
The pier proposed for the island is a 25m x 6m concrete construction, to be located on the northern side of the rock outcrop, adjacent to the landing slip and connected to the existing arched walkway.
The proposed extension to the existing pier at Dunquin provides for a concrete pier to be constructed 53 metres seaward of the existing structure and connected to the existing pier by a new steel bridge.

I do not think, therefore, that any change in the existing signing requirements is called for in the case of Dunquin residents.
