Dunstable is a town in the county of Bedfordshire, with a population of 33,805 (2001 census).
Geographically Dunstable lies on the eastward tail spurs of the Chiltern Hills, these spurs form several steep chalk escarpments most noticeable when approaching Dunstable from the north.
The Dunstable Priory Church of St Peter was founded in the 12th Century by Henry I and was later setting for the first ever divorce between Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon.

Ollie was there as well and did rather a spectacular stall at low altitude after a couple of tight turns, luckily he survived with a bump on the head and bottom.
Unfortunately my flying was short, with little lift and a hurt ankle because I forgot to slow down and run off the speed as I landed on the slope.

Just 20 miles from Greater London, the Club is situated in the beautiful Chilterns on the edge of the town of Dunstable.
When the wind is from a north-westerly direction, the 300ft high escarpment of Dunstable Downs deflects air upwards and our gliders are able to stay aloft for many hours.

The mayor stood at the top of the hill and threw or rolled oranges down the slope, and people would scramble to catch them.

I've planned on Dunstable Downs before but avoiding the thickest walk/fight whilst keeping you off the paths is a problem in such a narrow area.
The long thin shape and continuous slope of Dunstable Downs makes it challenging for the planner as well as the runners.
The results show that Stan did an excellent job as the finishing times on all but one of the courses (Light Green) were within the guidelines, and the number of retirements was low considering the awful conditions.

A fantastic hot and sunny day, yet again, 30 degrees C and the hottest day of the year so far - for the 'umpteenth' Dunstable Downs kite festival (even the organisers can't remember how many years it has been running).
The Brighton Kite Flyers, Great Ouse Kite Flyers and even some members of the Northern Kite Group came to Dunstable to fly in the sunshine.
Also present was Stafford Wallace who demonstrated his Indian fighter kite skills, giving the children an opportunity to acquire the delicate kites that tumbled from the sky after being cut free.
