It was no surprise nor any less unmerited when Dunston doubled their lead four minutes before the break when sub Anthony March sent a long ball from inside his own half down the line to Hollier who beat Gilmore with a low drive inside his left-hand post.
Dunston found it difficult to lift their game in the second half, and with City giving away possession with philanthropic gusto or just standing off, the game soon developed into a meaningless exchange of misplaced passes for the home side and controlled authority by the visitors.
Dunston looked well organized and will hardly achieve an easier victory this season;  City's Jekyll and Hyde season continues to infuriate management and fans alike as the squad struggles to achieve any measure of consistency or indeed competitiveness.

Consett for their part were a danger at set plays forcing a fair number of corners in the opening half, and although a 20th minute Andrew Thompson free kick threatened to break the deadlock, the Dunston keeper Dawson wasn’t troubled.
The nearest either side came to a goal in a drab first half was when Fed’s Armstrong played in Southern on the left corner of the penalty area who fired in a shot that struck the foot of the post.

As might have been expected, Dunston might a bright start to the game and gave Consett a scare in the 9th minute when Mickey Farrey’s 25 yard effort rebounded back off the post with Platten beaten.
In the 16th minute both number sixes, Consett’s Lee Suddes and Fed’s Steven Holmes, saw free kicks from outside the box easily caught by their opposing keepers, then a couple of minutes later Jeff Sugden headed a Suddes corner over the bar as the Steelmen showed that they were capable of threatening themselves.
The Fed were denied by the woodwork for a second time midway through the first half when a well worked move saw Graeme Armstrong break down the right and send in a low cross to Benn Thompson who swept the ball up onto the bar.

Negotiations to begin acquiring the site started over a year ago after Scottish & Newcastle Breweries announced it was relocating to the Federation Brewery site in Dunston, Gateshead.
Although contracts have been formally exchanged, Scottish & Newcastle Breweries are currently decommissioning the site and will not officially vacate until June 2006.
