Duracell Bunny - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Duracell bunny predates the Energizer Bunny, which actually began as a parody of the Duracell bunny toys that became a collectible item.
The Energizer bunny is always depicted with a drum, as the Duracell bunny toys that it is a parody of had drums, but the actual Duracell bunny advertising campaign has moved beyond this, and Duracell bunnies are usually depicted as doing something other than beating a drum.
The Duracell Bunny does not appear in North America, due to the now iconic status of the Energizer Bunny, but he can be seen from time to time.

FOUR "ordinary bunnies" are out-run by the Duracell bunny, which I feel, gives the clear implication that Duracell batteries are 4+ times better than ordinary batteries.
Duracell do not claim their batteries will outlast ordinary batteries "2, 3 or 4 times".
Through their bunny race, they claim more than 4+ times." Ordinary batteries" these days are alkaline batteries, and Duracell does not last 4+ times more than them.

Throughout the advertisement the non-Duracell bunny is exhausted and replaced by a similarly garbed runner, with a voice-over stating that Duracell alkaline batteries last up to 3 times longer than Eveready Super Heavy Duty batteries.
At the end of the commercial, the Duracell bunny wins the race, running strongly in front of the last of the non-Duracell bunnies.
The court held that Duracell was not required to mention that the makers of Eveready batteries also sold the more powerful alkaline "Energiser" batteries (which were not the basis of the comparison), in order to avoid a 'misleading half - truth'.

Eveready Energizer uses the bunny in their ad campaigns in the U.S. To give you some background, several years ago--at least ten--our advertising campaign did, indeed, feature the "pink bunny." here in the U.S. However, Duracell now features other ads.
One way to distinguish between the Energizer bunny and the DURACELL bunny is their appearance.
The DURACELL bunny most always has the drum in a horizontal position in front of him/her and the Energizer bunny has the drum in a vertical position.

Energizer has won a permanent injunction against Duracell makers Gillette after a Federal Court ruled that the latest ‘desert race’ Duracell advertisement was misleading and deceptive.
The advertisement showed the Duracell pink bunny winning the race across the desert while the three other rabbits using light blue-coloured non-Duracell batteries were unable to run even a third of the distance before they ran out of power.
Statements such as ‘Duracell always wins’ and claims that Duracell lasts up to three times longer than other batteries were also dismissed by the ruling, forcing the company to completely remove the advertisement from television screens across Australia, according to law firm Gilbert + Tobin partner Michael Williams.

GILLETTE Australia is preparing to have its controversial Duracell “race bunny” TV advertisement back on air “as soon as possible” after winning its appeal against an earlier Federal Court judgement that forced it off air.
The ads, which were temporarily removed from TV screens in November 2001 pending the Federal Court ruling showed a bunny—powered by a Duracell alkaline battery—steaming ahead in the race stakes while an Energizer carbon zinc battery-power one lagged behind.
But in the appeal the judges ruled in Duracell’s favour allowing the ad to return to air but with script modifications that clarify what is being compared.
