Thank You was a poorly received covers album by Duran Duran released in April 1995.
The two singles from the album were well-regarded covers of Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines" and Lou Reed's "Perfect Day", but the critics lambasted the band's attempts at "911 Is A Joke", "Ball of Confusion" and "Crystal Ship", and the band completed a 1995 summer tour of radio station festivals only under duress.
Duran Duran's former drummer Roger Taylor, who retired from the band in 1986, joined the band in studio to play drums on "Watching The Detectives" and "Perfect Day" (as well as two others that did not appear on the album).

Despite the release of several albums in the 90's, the band hadn't been able to successfully bridge the gap between the 80's and the 21st century, except for The Wedding Album and the "White Lines" cover, which for a brief moment reminded us that they were still able to cut catchy glitz-pop tunes.
While the light electro-pop is still present, in the background the 2004 edition of Duran Duran is sexy, funky with a hint of disco and more sophisticated—we even get to hear an orchestra on the closing track, the beautiful and lengthy "Still Breathing".
Thankfully, Duran Duran were wise enough to play it safe, contrary to their fellow band Tears For Fears who managed to alienate their fans with their suicidal folky turn à la Mighty Wind.

Duran Duran had been mired in mediocre albums and less than stellar sales, but the pre-album release of "Ordinary World" changed all that, and well it should - it's a fantastic song and recording.
I hesitate to call it a comeback album though because though it helped Duran Duran regain success, they'd still been around for years before this and I felt that their earlier albums were very good as well.
Duran Duran bombed quietly with 1990's "Liberty" and then disappeared for three years, leading many to think their careers ended with the Eighties.

It was after the release of this album by Capitol that I realized that it was possible that I, a rock fanatic, had a soft spot in my heart for Duran Duran.
In fact, I have to say that this album was a definite high point in the career of a band that could have become blips on the 1980's pop landscape.
Duran Duran made a good choice when they decided to change their focus and to make music that is good rather than music that is MTV-bound.

Needless to say, the raunchy video created an uproar (it was consequently banned by the BBC and a heavily edited "day version" was aired on MTV), and needless to say, the band enjoyed and capitalized on that uproar.
Most notably, they added the new track "Is There Something I Should Know?", recorded with producer Ian Little at the end of 1982.

The album opens with both my favourite cover and what is my favourite Duran Duran song, the mighty Rio.
Closing the album is the incredibly pointless second cover of Girls On Film by The Wesley Willis Fiasco.

I was a Duran Duran fan, back in high school.
Goldfinger's "Rio" cover is a highlight, of course, and they are the only band that I know for sure regularly plays their contribution; they are also the only ones to really make any changes to their song (morphing the chorus into a bad metal-ish "His name is Dio, Ronnie James Dio").
This is definitely worth picking up if you can bear to admit you were ever a Duran Duran fan.
