		I have been trying to figure this out, I know I have heard people say the engine in the Mazda3 is a duratec and is identical to the 2.3L in the Focus.
		for all intents and purposes the duratec line IS the MZR line, just depends on whether you ask a ford guy or a mazda guy.
		The new FORD engines that are called Duratec 2.0 and 2.3L are Mazda designed.

		The horsepower and torque of a Duratec really pushes these gearboxes to the limit and the cracked case is a known problem.

		The Duratec is probably the best choice from a future ability standpoint but it's probably easier to get the Miata engine really powerful right now.
		The 2.3 duratec is a very torquey motor especially once you start opening up its breathing and it is about 50lbs lighter than the 2.0l Zetec.
