Moria (Middle-earth) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Durin woke at Mount Gundabad in the Misty Mountains.
Nearby, Durin first began his city, which was called Khazad-dûm by the Dwarves and also Dwarrowdelf by Men, Hadhodrond by the Sindar, and Casarrondo by the Ñoldor.
It is told however that Durin VII and Last may have re-founded Moria, and retrieved what he could of his people's once-mighty riches, but many Dwarves seem to have remained at the Iron Hills, Aglarond, and the refounded Kingdom under the mountain at Erebor.

Durin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tolkien took Durin's name, like most of the dwarf names in his work, from real Norse mythology (in which Durin was the first of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves and the forger of many wonderful items, such as the sword Tyrfing).
Durin II Little is recorded about his reign, although there are indications that the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm were in a confederation with the Men of the vales of Anduin, where the Men provided food in return for Dwarven weapons.
The Dwarves of Durin's folk had been given this ring by Celebrimbor himself, and not by Sauron, though Sauron was involved in the making.
