Dustin Kensrue Profile Page: Biography, Interview and Album Review
Born, raised and still residing in the famously superficial Orange County, California, Kensrue is an anomaly in the region's musical scene.
Teranishi handled the organ and piano duties, while Kensrue played all the acoustic guitars and bass on the disc, whose songs were written to be blueprints: They're structured, says the singer, so that they can be changed live, or effortlessly played with just an acoustic guitar.
Hailing from a small, landlocked city in the middle of Orange County, Kensrue was raised by a father with a beefy record collection, and a mother who sent young Dustin to piano lessons, though all he really wanted to play was guitar.

Dustin: It was awesome, we got to play for a lot of new kids and our CD’s really hard to find over there so it was a good way to get our name out there.
Dustin: I kinda retracted that statement a couple of times since then, because I don’t think that it hurts but I think that’s my way, my advice, there are a ton of other ways that work.
Dustin: We didn’t get to see a ton of the towns we went to but we did see Insberg in Austria and we were in this valley between mountains and we walked around for three hours and took pictures.

Kensrue: We are writing the music we want to write, it's not a conscious effort to be like "let's not do this thing" or "let's piss all these people off".
Kensrue: And I guarantee that if we did do it again, people whose favorite record is The Illusion Of Safety they are not going to find a replacement to that.
Kensrue: We've been doing different charities on each record but in general the feeling behind that is just that we are very fortunate to do what we do for a living and also we were all very fortunate growing up in a safe place with a lot of opportunities.

Kensrue says he enjoys the amp-free change, but doesn't expect the pared-down sound to make it to a Thrice full-length any time soon.
Once this tour wraps up, Kensrue says the band will begin writing material for a follow-up album to last year's "The Artist in the Ambulance." He hopes the album is a success, and places a lot of faith in his label.

The members of Thrice (Kensrue, guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Ed Breckenridge and drummer Riley Breckenridge) cut their teeth on the competitive Orange County music scene, opening for bands in dingy clubs and doing anything they could to avoid paying to play in Los Angeles.
For Kensrue, who agrees with the sentiment that arena bands can't be considered punk, it all comes down to the quality of the material.
