Dutch workers were conscripted for labour in German factories, civilians were killed in reprisal for attacks on German soldiers, and the countryside was plundered for food for German soldiers in the Netherlands and for shipment to Germany.
Political scientists consider the Netherlands to be a classic example of a consociational state, traditionally explained by the necessity since the early Middle Ages for different social groups to cooperate in order to fight the water; illustrated by the authority of the Dijkgraven (regional dyke inspector general) over the local nobility.
Another Dutch dialect granted the status of regional language is Limburgish, which is spoken in the south-eastern province of Limburg.

Biblography on Party Politics in the Netherlands, 1950-1962
In light of the communal (verzuild) nature of Dutch society and politics, where each socio-religious group has its own party, it is not surprising that the "party composition" codes (3--) are overrepresented in relation to the others.
The "political history of the party" code (140) is used frequently because the major parties have deep roots in Dutch history.

Dutch politics breaks taboo on talking about immigration
With political correctness here in shreds, and multiculturalism often defined for the time being more as a problem than as an enrichment, the Dutch are basically choosing from mainstream candidates who have all marked out ground rules for how Muslim immigrants must integrate into and assume the obligations of the Dutch humanist tradition.

Politics Central: The Divided Dutch Right: Or how an opportunity to effect change is being squandered
There were many other articles in the international media that suggested that the Dutch had lost their appetite for good old fashioned left-of-center political correctness and were voting en groupe for neo-con inspired change in the wake of failed integration policies.
Ali, the newest addition to the American Enterprise Institute’s team of scholars, was cruelly offered up for political expediency by her fellow party member and hardline immigration minister Rita Verdonk.
Still, ideologically they may not be that far apart, and the various groupings together or under the banner of a reformed VVD could be able to offer the Dutch voter a realistic alternative to the traditional left-of-center option where the Dutch have been stuck for most of the last four decades.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — With a bluntness unknown in Dutch politics, Pim Fortuyn attacked immigration, high taxes and low government performance, and managed in less than a year to shift the political agenda of the Netherlands.

While most Europeans looked on Dutch public services with envy, Fortuyn hammered the government for allowing long waiting lists to build for health services, for ever-increasing traffic jams and for a common feeling that education levels were falling.
