Captain PerryƂ’s initial sea duty assignments were USS CALIFORNIA (CGN 36) (Plank Owner) and USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) where he served as "M" Division Officer and as Reactor Training Assistant respectfully.
After leaving the USS California, Rear Admiral Miller was assigned to the Ship Acquisition Division (OP-37) on the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations.
His second sea tour was as Executive Officer of the destroyer escort USS HARTLEY (DE-1029) where he served eighteen months prior to reporting to USS LONG BEACH (CGN-9) in January 1967 as Electrical Officer.

 WASHINGTON'S TRAVELS IN NEW ENGLAND
General Washington spent the night of April 7-8 in the tavern of Colonel Dwight located on what is now the corner of Burbank and Main Streets in Warren.
Washington arrived at Ashford on the 7th, stating in his journal that he lodged at Perkins' place and spent all day Sunday in the town in obedience to Connecticut law, dating back to the Pilgrims, prohibiting travel on Sundays.
Washington was escorted by Colonel Jeremiah Wadsworth and the Hartford Light Horse to Hartford, where the president lodged at the tavern of Frederick Bull, previously known as the Collier Tavern.

 Chicago Landmarks Schurz High School
The siting of this structure on an eight-acre tract of land, as well as its forceful brick facade, make it the acknowledged masterpiece of architect Dwight Perkins, who designed several school buildings while architect for the Chicago Board of Education (1905-10).
The strong vertical piers are characteristic of the Chicago School, while the overhanging roof, detailed brickwork, and strong geometric forms are elements identified with Prairie School architecture.
Schurz High School also represents a significant amalgamation of two important architectural styles.

Griffin graduated from the University of Illinois in 1899 and began work as an architect in the office of Dwight Heald Perkins before becoming associated with Frank Lloyd Wright.
Griffin worked right up to the last minute and crated his entry for transport by train from Chicago to San Francisco where it was put on a ship to Sydney and then sent by train to Melbourne.
Griffin continued to practise as an architect in Australia, designing the NSW towns of Griffith and Leeton, Newman College at the University of Melbourne, the Capitol Theatre, Melbourne and some houses.

Baird used this period, too, to further his contacts in the field, arranging meetings with Louis Agassiz, Asa Gray, John Cassin, and Thomas M. Brewer, and working for James Dwight Dana in identifying the crustacean collected on the Charles Wilkes expedition.
In 1850, Baird was recruited to become Assistant Secretary at the new Smithsonian Institution, brought in by Dana (who had become one of its Regents) and seconded by his old correspondents, Audubon, Agassiz, and George Perkins Marsh.
Baird was elected to the APS in 1855.
