Dwight Yoakam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dwight David Yoakam (born October 23, 1956) is an American musician, songwriter, and actor.
Yoakam was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, growing up with his mother and step-father, who had a white-collar job in the automotive industry.
Outside of school, Yoakam sang and played guitar with local garage bands, and frequently entertained his friends and classmates as an amateur comedian, impersonating politicians and other celebrities, such as Richard Nixon, who, at that time, was heavily embroiled in the Watergate controversy.

Country star DWIGHT YOAKAM is full of praise for his new movie lover, MELISSA LEO, after she bared all for a sex scene with him.
Dwight Yoakam never has really left country, but his recent album, "Blame the Vain," may mark a return to the moody, raw music that made the crooner famous in the 1980s and early 1990s.
These dozen self-penned and self-produced cuts are typical Dwight — the lonesome vocals with a hint of a yodel, the hillbilly boogie and heartbreak ballads, the unwavering devotion to the classic country sounds of Johnny and Buck and Hag and Waylon.

His version of "Fast As You" is a dazzling example of DWIGHT's oft-overlooked talent as a guitarist--an arresting, almost pyrotechnic blend of rhythm and texture that draws the listener in with its distinct, almost hypnotic groove, and lends the segue into the desolation of "Home For Sale" a profound resonance.
Dwight’s understanding of country’s past is one of the great vitures of his music; his will to go the past one better...to jump the energy level up several notches, is an equally important viture in the Yoakam canon.
DWIGHT isn't afraid to step outside the boundaries of country altogether: listen to his remakes of the stormy swamp rocker "I Hear You Knockin'," Wilbert Harrison's RandB exhortation "Let's Get Together," his cover of "Truckin"' on the Grateful Dead tribute album Deadicated, or the Warren Zevon-penned "Carmelita" on Flaco Jimenez's solo album Partners.

DWIGHT's musical instinct and approach have continually sharpened, attaining a consistence and clarity that is flat-out exhilarating.
DWIGHT and Anderson's seemingly effortless facility in transposing and expanding country's various sub-genres, whether it's a hard shuffle, rockabilly passion, or the odd curl of a Cajun-style steel guitar figure, is downright wild--they pluck diverse elements seemingly out of the air, weaving them into gleaming new creations.
DWIGHT also looks far beyond country's established heritage and boundaries with the chugging reggae rhythm and dub break of "For Love’s Sake"; his straight, sweet reading of Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me,” provides the opportunity to extend both his own appeal and, in the process, country music as a whole.

Widely lauded as Dwight's triumphant return to his hard country roots, this album is actually one big nudge-nudge, wink-wink effort, and a pretty good litmus test of those of us who pay attention to lyrics and those of us who don't.
