		Dyer was the maiden name of Martha Hart, wife of Aaron Norton Hart, a publisher who invested in the area which later became Dyer.
		Approximately 1830, the region of Northwest Indiana was inhabited by Pottawatomie Indians and was becoming a new settlement for a new group of people.
		In the early 1920s, Dyer was selected for the portion the "Ideal Section of the Lincoln Highway," an experimental model for the standards of U.S. highway construction.

		Rodney Kenney, 72, of Dyer died at 1:11 p.m June 1 at the University of Chicago Hospitals as a result of burns over 64 percent of his body.
		Kenney, an Alzheimer's patient, was a resident at Regency Place of Dyer when a nursing home employee reported she was cleaning a table May 26 when she heard a sound and turned to see Kenney, who was in a wheelchair, in flames, according to the coroner's report.
