Life of pie - The Boston Globe
Perhaps an indicator that the art of pie baking is dying is seen on grocery shelves.
Pie may have originated in Europe, but Americans have spent 400 years making pie their own, filling them with everything from key limes and sweet potatoes to lemons, chocolate, bananas, and cream.
A pie begins with the crust, which can be decoratively fluted or boast latticework or even intricate stencils, but the most important thing is to strike the elusive balance of tender, flaky, and crisp.

This particular shaker lemon pie had a very strange crust that was super flakey but strangely soft and tender… kind of like a soda cracker that was out in the humidity until it lost it’s crisp… but it was actually quite tasty.
The butterscotch pecan pie was really cool, a crunchy candied pecan layer on the bottom kept the crust flaky, then the nuts were topped with a generous layer of butterscotch filling, in turn topped with whipped cream and more pecans.

DVD Verdict Review - Spongebob Squarepants: Nautical Nonsense / Sponge Buddies
My personal faves are "The Graveyard Shift," "Dying For Pie," and "Club Spongebob." "The Graveyard Shift" has everything that makes the show great: funny dialogue (the whole story of the Hash-Slinging Slasher is hilarious), clever sight gags (especially Spongebob's regenerating limbs), and that aforementioned outta-nowhere ending that made me bust a gut.
"Dying For Pie" has all that (except the bizarre ending), plus Spongebob's "Friendship List" of fun things to do with the extra-fun things in red (hint: everything on the list is in red).
All of his fun things to do seem to involve the humiliation of Squidward, though the naïve dude has no clue that he's embarrassing the guy he wants to be his friend.

One of the highest-rated kids' shows on TV, Spongebob Squarepants manages to be at once singularly silly and slyly sophisticated -- a neat trick that has the half-hour series attracting college kids and parents as well as the preschool set.

SpongeBob Squared - A longer, more conventional kiddie show. By David Edelstein
All this is amusing enough, but I kept waiting for the story to zigzag and go hurtling off into the furthest reaches of absurdity.
(One of my favorite SpongeBob cartoons, "Dying for Pie," ends with an H-bomb explosion in Bikini Bottom—substituting, no doubt, for Bikini Atoll.) The movie does get crazy, sort of, finally, but the path is pretty straight—or, as they say in the screenplay biz, linear.
King Neptune, voiced by Jeffrey Tambor, is a dull despot, imported from a more Disneyish cartoon universe, and his friendly daughter, a bespectacled mermaid named Mindy (voiced by Scarlett Johanssen), is only mildly more diverting, largely thanks to Patrick's habit of drooling and babbling, "She's hot," whenever she's in the vicinity.
