Dylan McDermott - Biography - Moviefone
Proving that there is a reason for the existence of the cliché "tall, dark, and handsome," Dylan McDermott has won many a heart, as well as many a critical nod, for his role on the Emmy-winning television series The Practice.
McDermott was, by his own account, something of a delinquent, but his life began to turn around when he discovered acting as a teenager.
McDermott rebounded somewhat with his leading role as Holly Hunter's love interest in the following year's Home for the Holidays, but it wasn't until two years later, when he appeared in a few episodes of Ally McBeal and landed his role on The Practice, that McDermott began to find true success.

 Dylan McDermott
Dylan McDermott has been an actor on the verge of stardom ever since his promising feature-film debut as a disaffected young sergeant who leads his squad on a ten-day battle to capture a hill in 1987's hard-hitting Vietnam drama Hamburger Hill.
It was a searing entrée into filmmaking for an actor who had already pulled duty on the stages of New York, and one many observers thought would pave a smooth and direct road to cinema fame for the handsome young newcomer.
But such was not the case: though McDermott went on to achieve a modicum of success playing the foil, romantic or otherwise, opposite a number of Hollywood heavy-hitters, he has yet to enjoy a significant big-screen breakout.

Dylan McDermott Biography at Hollywood.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
The son of a New York bar owner, McDermott started as a stage actor under the tutelage of stepmother and modernist playwright Eve Ensler and was signed by an agent who spotted him on Broadway in "Biloxi Blues" (1985).
But it was back to B-pictures for awhile: McDermott appeared in such forgettable fare as the thrillers "Hardware" (1990), "Where Sleeping Dogs Lie" (1991, with fellow up-and-comer Sharon Stone), and the romantic comedy "Jersey Girl", which was sold to Fox TV just before its scheduled 1992 release.
McDermott continued to try to find footing in feature films, but his largely unconvincing turn as scuzzy, tattooed and goateed drug dealer/thief David Lind in "Wonderland" (2003), a recounting of Los Angeles' 1981 drug murders on Wonderland Avenue, signaled that perhaps he should avoid such obvious stretches and continue to play to his strengths.
