Topic: Dynamic arrest

Dynamic entry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dynamic entry is a police tactic used when the target of a raid is considered likely to be either armed and dangerous or likely to destroy pertinent evidence if given warning of police presence.
In contrast, in dynamic entry the door is generally knocked down or otherwise opened forcibly from the outside and the police enter with weapons drawn.
One of the best-known instances of "dynamic entry" was that of the former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms at the Branch Davidian's Mount Carmel Center near Waco, Texas in 1993.

Dynamic Man flies to the scene and waits for night-fall, when bolts of lightning are said to shoot from the nearby mountains.

Dynamic entry, which relies on speed and surprise and may involve forced entry, is a preferred tactic during high-risk operations--those where ATF believes that suspects pose a threat of violence--or in operations where evidence can be easily destroyed.
ATF statistics on suspects arrested from firearms investigations during fiscal years 1990 to 1995 showed that 46 percent of the suspects had previous felony convictions, 24 percent had a history of violence, and 18 percent were armed at the time of their arrests.\1 (See pp.

The time scale on which "dynamic arrest" occurs is defined by essentially the same limits of human patience, not by any fundamental parameter.
The first property is that dynamics become increasingly nonexponential as the temperature is decreased.
Whether this relaxation function is representative of the dynamics of each individual region of the sample (homogeneous dynamics) or of a distribution of relaxation times from physically distinct regions (inhomogeneous dynamics) remains an open question.

Dynamic Rollover   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Dynamic rollover typically occurs when a critical rollover angle is exceeded.
This angle--often referred to as the dynamic rollover angle--is considered that angle-of-bank beyond which the pilot's control authority can't arrest the angular velocity that develops laterally about a pivot point such as a skid or tire.
This same discussion on dynamic rollover has direct application to another area of helicopter flight that we are asked to perform as part of our mission – sloped landings.

An Order Parameter for Dynamic Arrest: Unveiling Elements of 'Universality' in Lattice Models of the Dynamical Arrest
Dynamically available volume (unoccupied space that is available to the motion of particles) is expressed as holes for the simple lattice models we study.
We find a vanishingly small arrest density of holes for the BM and EM models, but in the KA model it is worth noting that a small but measurable number of isolated holes remains at the arrest density, and their density at arrest is subtracted to obtain the order parameter of arrest [18].
Near arrest then, the frustration leads many of the holes to be blocked for long periods of time, the only particle being able to move into them being the one that moved in the last step.

eLCOSH : Horizontal Fall Arrest System
The dynamic loads at the end terminations of a flexible HLL system can be several times higher than the arresting force generated by the falling worker.
For example, if the maximum arresting force on a worker's lanyard was 1,800 pounds each support must sustain an 1,800 vertical load, but also a horizontal load at the end anchorages that could be much greater than 1,800 pounds.
A rigid horizontal fall arrest system, as the name implies, is a rigid structural shape such as a pipe, channel, or I-beam secured in a manner that provides a continuous horizontal anchor for fall arrest systems.

The dynamic fracture toughness of the exterior girder flanges is high enough that crack arrest is possible depending on load level.
This is supported by the fact that the dynamic fracture resistance of the flange plates was shown to decrease rapidly as a function of temperature.

Glass transition temperature - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As temperature falls, molecular motion slows further down and, if the cooling rate is fast enough, molecules never reach their destination — the substance enters into dynamic arrest and a disordered, glassy solid (or supercooled liquid) forms.
In fact, Kauzmann has argued that if such an arrest did not happen, at still lower temperatues a thermodynamically paradoxical situation would arise, where the undercooled liquid would have to be denser and of a lower enthalpy than the crystalline phase.
Such arrest apparently takes place at certain temperature, which is called the calorimetric ideal glass transition temperature T

The ATF chose the dynamic entry raid, the most hazardous of the options, despite its recognition that a violent confrontation was predictable.

By 1970, the research area of dynamic fracture mechanics was emerging throughout the international research community.
In the areas of seismology and seismic source modeling within geophysics, LBF's work on dynamic shear provided timely quantitative guidance toward the understanding of the ruptures in the crust of the earth that give rise to earthquakes.
This book, entitled Dynamic Fracture Mechanics, continues to be the major reference on the subject, not only within the engineering sciences but also in other branches of physical science which have developed an interest in dynamic fracture phenomena.

 What Works
Dynamic risk factors are those characteristics of offenders and their environment that, at least theoretically, can be changed through appropriate rehabilitative programming (e.g., antisocial attitudes, peer associations).
The combination of static and dynamic risk factors yields a continuum that is generally discussed in terms of the likelihood of reoffending by level: low, medium, and high risk of recidivism.
One of the key principles of the “what works” model is that higher and more intensive levels of service are best reserved for higher risk cases and that low risk cases are best assigned to minimal service.

Equinoctial power is conditioned by the intense dynamism of the equinoctial Signs, Aries and Libra — Signs of maximum speed of the Sun's motion in declination; Signs in which the Day-force and the Night-force are most evenly balanced.
Solstitial power is the outcome of a strong concrete type of activity during the solstitial periods (Cancer and Capricorn) which begin with the Sun's motion in declination reduced to a minimum speed and which see the triumph respectively of the Day-force and the Night-force.
Where the cardinal Sign displays intense dynamism and instability, the succeeding fixed Sign must, as it were, arrest this dynamic activity and limit it.
