  GamingWorld X - Dynasty Warriors 4 Review
Sports fans define it as any team that reigns in the upper echelon; the New York Yankees of today, the Chicago Bulls in the early 90’s, the Celtics from 57-69, the Edmonton Oilers in the 80’s.
Dynasty Warriors, in a move that’s a downer for all the sports fans out there, uses the latter definition in its melding of a storyline from Chinese history with a hack and slash adventure.
Dynasty Warriors 4 is a fairly straightforward retelling of events from AD 220-280 in Chinese history.

The Sports Gaming Network (SGN) - The Future of Sports Gaming
Not only should sports games allow players to be imported between titles, but they should also allow you to import players, even teams, from previous versions of a game.
In the past, created players in sports games were usually identified, if at all, by their number, but in NCAA 99 and 2000, custom players' names are woven seamlessly into the gameplay.
Improved AI in new sports titles should allow CPU opponents to have more "random" thinking like from time to time, emulating real-life "thinking on your feet." Until computer opponents can improvise and trick you with crafty, unconventional gameplay, single-player sports gaming will continue to pale in contrast with two-player gaming.

 Sports Dynasties - SPORTSbyBROOKS Forum
To me, a sports dynasty is a franchise that has success in different generations.
The thing about dynasties, at least from what they taught in school about China and the kingdoms of Egypt, is that they come in, rule for a while, and then fall to another one for various reasons (often the reason is their own excesses and arrogance, but changing political climates can also contribute).
I think a dynasty is a team that shows dominance year after year (with championship wins) with the same core of players.

In this case, 'D' is for dominance - The Boston Globe
That would make 35 seasons and would clearly fall into the "dynasty" category, since the only constant throughout that span was the presence of Red Auerbach, who began the run as the team's coach and general manager and ended as more of a CEO emeritus.
And the meaning of "dynasty" excludes those whose period of true supremacy is but a few years.
Logic dictates that if the number of players involved is significantly higher than those in other sports, it would be that much more difficult to keep rolling winning rosters over and over the way it is when fewer players are needed.

Dynasty (sports) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In sports, the term dynasty is often used to refer to a team that dominates their sport for a period of time.
Such dominance is usually recognized only after a team has won many championships in a given time (3 in 4 years, 5 in 8 years, 7 in 12 years, etc.).
The exact requirements for the label is a frequent topic of debate among sports fans.

Lovers of the great dynasties of the past minimize the Patriots’ accomplishments for several reasons, the least of which is that parity curtails dominance.
Even if we assume that none of the Patriots teams were as good as the 60’s Packers, 70’s Steelers, or 80’s 49ers, a team isn’t labeled a dynasty on the basis of teams and eras that precede them; they’re branded that way because of their perceived dominance over the teams they’re actually competing against.
The day after the Super Bowl, a national radio sports commentator insisted that this year’s Patriots team is every bit as good as any of the aforementioned Super champions.

But the most remarkable team record, far and away when applying the word dynasty to a professional team in one of the major sports, is the run of the NBA Boston Celtics.
