Topic: Dyneema

  Dyneema
Dyneema is a polyethylene produced by DSM's patented gel spinning process.
Dyneema is 15 times stonger than steel on a wieght-for-weight basis, twice as strong as aramid fiber.
Dyneema is light enough to float on water, exhibts superior resistance to chemicals, water and UV light.

 DSM - DSM Dyneema - Dyneema® UD
Dyneema® UD Dyneema® UD is a unique lightweight composite providing superior anti-ballistic protection, for both personal and vehicle protection.
Dyneema® UD is made of several layers of Dyneema® fibers, with the direction of fibers in each layer at 90° to the direction of the fibers in the adjacent layers.
The unidirectional configuration of the fibers in Dyneema® UD allows the energy transferred from the impact of a bullet or other threat to be distributed along the fibers much faster and more efficiently than in conventional woven fabrics.

Rock Climbing Forums: Climbing Information: Gear Heads: 6mm Mammut Dyneema on mgear
I got the new Mountain Gear catalog yesterday, and aside from a bunch of new cool approach shoes and C3's, they had the new 6mm Mammut dyneema slings, with the same 22kN rating as the 8mm slings.
I do agree that 8mm and 6mm dyneema shouldn't usually be used for slinging trees and horns, because the smaller surface area creates higher pressures and there is a greater risk for slicing the sling on something sharp.
Also, while in theory I like the idea of a dyneema harness with dyneema belay loop, I think belay loops should be more beefy because of all the abuse they take.

Chemie.DE News-Center: DSM builds fourth Dyneema production line in the Netherlands and second Dyneema UD production ...
DSM is also expanding production capacity for Dyneema UD (used in personal protection equipment and vehicle armour plates).
Dyneema® is a superstrong polyethylene fibre developed by DSM.
Dyneema moreover has a low density (it floats on water), a high resistance to abrasion, moisture, UV radiation and chemicals and a high energy-absorption capacity, which explains why Dyneema fibres can stop bullets.
