Electronic paper, also sometimes called e-paper or electronic ink, is a display technology designed to mimic the appearance of regular ink on paper.
In the 1990s another type of electronic paper was invented by Joseph Jacobson, who later co-founded the corporation E Ink which formed a partnership with Philips Components two years later to develop and market the technology.
E Ink announced in October 2005 that it would begin shipping developer kits of 6 inch, 800x600 resolution electronic paper on November 1st, 2005.

Pen and ink refers to a technique of drawing or writing, in which colored (this includes fl) ink is applied to paper using a pen or other stylus.
Invisible ink is a substance which can be used to write with, which is either invisible on application or disappears quickly, and can be subsequently restored by some means.

The E Ink technology is a monochrome (4 level greyscale) display device which changes reflectivity by moving microscopic fl and white particles held within spherical microcapsules.

Battery life is also comparable to that of many PDAs because while the electronic ink display does not require any power once it is set to show a specific page, the Motorola Dragonball CPU requires constant power, and read and write operations between the storage and the memory stick also require power.
