Bruce Springsteen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The E Street Band is considered to have started in October 1972, even though it wasn't officially billed and known as such until September 1974.
In 1995, after temporarily re-organizing the E Street Band for a few new songs recorded for his first Greatest Hits album (a recording session that was chronicled in the documentary Blood Brothers), he released his second solo guitar album, The Ghost of Tom Joad.
[9] The E Street Band was inactive from the end of 1988 through early 1999, except for a brief reunion in 1995.

With the release of "The Rising" in 2002, and the tour that followed this release, the E-Street Band is back........Stronger than ever.
E Street was still very much in the picture, although the lineup continued to evolve.
The band was at its peak, with the "Born in the U.S.A." album spending seven weeks at the top of the charts.

In this case, a "band" may change over the course of 3 releases, so its good to know "who" the band is on the release.
Is there a way you could add band member fields, their instrument (even "turntables") and possibly the time they spent with the band.
Some bands have revolving doors of musicians but keep a strong core or a member dies and is replaced...

Review: Bruce Springsteen And The E-Street Band-Live In New York City--AllYourTV.com
The answer--as it turns out--is that despite their age, and the time spent on solo careers, the E-Street band is as vital as ever.
It's instructive that the show skips his last two hit singles--"Secret Garden" and "Philadelphia"-- as well as anything from the uberhit album "Born In The USA." The challenge for both Springsteen and the rest of the E-Street band is to convince the audience to forget the hits, and concentrate on the music.
Because in the end, what matters to Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band is the music.

The 2002 film 24 Hour Party People (see 2002 in film), is an allegedly fact-based satire about Factory Records' people and bands, and the infamous, often unsubstantiated anecdotes and stories surrounding them.
The label employed a unique cataloguing process that saw every album, piece of art or item of property (including their famous nightclub The Haçienda and its resident cat) labelled with 'FAC' and an appropriate number (the nightclub was FAC51; the cat was FAC191).

The 52nd Street Project is a nonprofit organization that brings inner city children from the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City together with professional theater artists to create theater.
Her favorite TV show is "David Letterman." I ask her why and she tells me because her uncle plays in the band.
Founded by Artistic Director Willie Reale over 12 years ago, the Project has a demonstrably constructive and enlivening effect on the children it engages and is being replicated in cities around the country.

Records by Quando Quango, 52nd Street, Marcel King and Section 25 were picked up in clubs like the Paradise Garage in NYC, scored heavily on the black and gay scenes, were remixed for the US market by luminaries such as Mark Kamins, Arthur Baker and John 'Jellybean' Benitez, and made the Billboard dance charts.
The band began producing their own records with Temptation in May 1982, although the classic Be Music period really begins with the watershed Blue Monday, released in March 1983, and ends as the band got busy with their third album, Low Life, released in May 1985.
After 1981 the band downsized to Keane alone and enjoyed an abortive alliance with Some Bizarre, for whom the vocoder-friendly track Motherland was originally recorded, with The The man Matt Johnson producing.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on 52nd Street Themes - Joe Lovano Nonet at Epinions.com
52nd Street Themes is the way to blend the old and the new - Lovano stands with both feet planted firmly in the present, with the past in his pocket and his eyes on the future.
As the title implies, 52nd Street Themes draws for inspiration on the jazz club scene that blossomed on New York City's 52nd street in the 40s and gave birth to bebop and, a couple of years later, the cool movement.
The music on 52nd Street Themes is infinitely more relaxed, with a good variety of tunes, from ballads to scorchers and everything in between, and all musicians play with assurance and confidence.

Three days after Springsteen called the band, they were in the studio, stretching what was supposed to be a two-day process into one which took a full week.
Maybe that's because it wasn't a band that was set up as a democracy, like maybe the Rolling Stones are, and on the other hand it wasn't purely people I'd hired as a backing band.

After the E-Street Band regrouped behind him, Springsteen broke out his acoustic guitar for the rollicking stomp of "Waitin' on a Sunny Day," a song that instantly revitalized the crowd.
After going through the popular song, the band suddenly picked up such instruments as the mandolin, banjo, fiddle and washboard, formed a tight circle at the front of the stage and finished off the tune in a thoroughly enjoyable down-home country manner.
Additionally, every member of the band looked like they were having a genuinely enjoyable time playing the show, an attitude that rubbed off postively on the members of the audience.

The band, with one exception, were phenomenal and playing like a band, not like a bunch of back up musicians, despite their second billing.
Evidently some band was coming in that didn't have their own PA, so the club hired us to provide one for the week's engagement.  I don't think anyone told me who the band was, I just packed up our van and headed over to Fenway.
When I walked in the door most of the band was milling around the bar, but one guy was playing the piano along with a tune on the jukebox.

 Songwriters Hall of Fame
The latest Springsteen release, The Rising, a collection of songs composed in the wake of the September 11th attacks on America, was the first collaboration with the E Street Band since 1984’s Born in the USA.
During the concert tour that followed, the E-Street Band became one of the most overwhelming ensembles in rock and roll, retaining that edge for years to come.
Initial sales and airplay of Greetings from Asbury Street were slight at the time, but many critics were intrigued by the unique lyric wordplay of the songs, particularly “Blinded by the Light”, “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street”, “For You”, “Spirit in the Night” and “It’s Hard to be a Saint in the City”.

Gig Reviews on CLUAS - Bruce Springsteen in the RDS
Indeed, the worst was to be feared when Bruce Springsteen announced he had pulled the E-street band together for a swan song tour around the stadiums of Europe that included the equestrian epicentre of Dublin 4.
Springsteen herself Patti Scialfa of the E-street band stepped forward to sing the remaining verses.
Sensitive though to the power of contrast, after this anthemic hat-trick, Bruce led his band into a delicate and moving If a fall behind from the wonderful Tunnel of Love album.

DVD Review: Bruce Springsteen & E-Street Band: Live in NYC
Richly deserved, as well - this concert documentary is beautifully directed and captures both Springsteen and the E-Street band at the top of their game and an audience that seems to be loving every minute of this joyous celebration of rock & roll soul.
He's simply a marvelous musician and a terrific singer whose effort on this program is amazing and highly entertaining, accompanied by his exceptional backing band.
The DVD is a true must-have for fans of the singer or anyone who simply enjoys a marvelously performed and highly enjoyable rock and roll show.

You've seen Max Weinberg perform with Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street band, and on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the infamous "Max Weinberg 7." If you were lucky enough to get a ticket, you recently saw him play with our very own UPS Jazz band.
Before the band began playing "Big Dipperasically Blues," Weinberg invited the two UPS band drummers Brendan Faegre and Alex Westcoat on stage to play alongside him for the rest of the night.
He was very generous as an individual, both with the crowd and with the band and I. It was a thrilling event," President Ron Thomas said.

Amazon.com: Video: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Blood Brothers (1996)
The band members had become more adept at playing their instruments, they had matured some, and it comes out in the numerous renditions of Blood Brothers and Secret Garden (which would be later used in the movie Jerry Maguire) that we get to eavesdrop on like a fly on the wall in the studio.
Since it was nearly seven years since the last time the E Street Band and Bruce Springsteen played together during the Tunnel of Love and the Amnesty International tours, their coming together in 1995 was a fans dream.
Because this was the first time the band had officially studio-recorded in 11 years, and 7 years since performing together, there were some interesting dynamics going on and band members were commenting about their emotions and happiness at being together again.

Crowd favorites like "Badlands," "Out in the Street," and "Born to Run" mixed nicely with such past gems as "Factory" and "Spirit in the Night." Both the band and the audience had a wonderful time, and drawn-out versions of "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" and "Light of Day" revealed Springsteen as a premier showman.
Only a short distance into the 150-minute set, the E-Street Band appeared set to claim the moniker of the "greatest rock 'n roll band" currently in existence.
When the band chants "come on rise up!" the message easily could apply to the residents of America's largest city.

The star of "52nd Street Themes," Joe Lovano's new disc, is of course Lovano, who -- as he demonstrated first in his years with the Mel Lewis big band, and more recently in a series of artfully arranged, powerfully played Blue Note sessions -- is the most intriguing tenor saxophonist on the scene today.
On "52nd Street Themes," Lovano focuses on the once famous, but always troubled, composer-band leader Tadd Dameron, whose purring pieces from the '40s and '50s, pieces such as the classic "Good Bait," draw on both bop and swing.
Here he is celebrating the "street that never slept," 52nd Street, specifically the Manhattan block between Fifth and Sixth avenues that for two decades starting in the '30s was lined by jazz clubs that featured everything from Dixieland to bop, and everybody from Art Tatum to Eddie Condon to Dizzy Gillespie.

Jazzed in Cleveland - Part 94 - Hank Kohout
He is probably best remembered for playing with the Bob McKee Trio, the house band at the Theatrical Grill on Vincent Avenue, for 17 years, but Hank also played with some of the giants of jazz on New York City’s famous 52nd Street, with leading big bands, and with network broadcast orchestras as well.
In 1942, he was playing piano in the house band down the street at the Three Deuces.
Beginning in 1963, Kohout was the pianist in the house band at the Theatrical Grill for 17 years.

 Joe Lovano, 52nd Street Themes
In fact I saw the band at The Fez in New York one night when a trombonist was enjoying himself so much he couldn't find his sheet music -- a severe disadvantage on a night they were sight-reading new arrangements.
The tunes on 52nd Street Themes were written by Tadd Dameron, Miles, Monk and others.
Slagle should be better known than he is. He's been consistently solid in his work with the Mingus Big Band.
