  Nash Rambler's Product Reviews
The E55 is a limited edition supercharged version of the E-Class sedan, the popular mid-size, luxury car line in the Mercedes Benz arsenal, positioned in between the smaller, less expensive C-Class and the larger, super luxury S-Class vehicles.
The four-door, rear-drive 2003 E55 sedan benefits this year from a complete redesign of the entire E-Class line, which a few years ago was a pretty basic, straight-looking sedan, but now sports the more fluid lines of a coupe.
The E55 utilizes a performance-oriented version of the AIRmatic suspension that's an option on the E500, which allows you to adjust the spring rate and damping settings to provide varying degrees of comfort or sports mode.

The E55 borrows the AirMatic air suspension system from its more humble bretheren and features the latest generation of ABC (Active Body Control) as well as several other do-dads intended to keep the big Benz from getting intimate with the nearest roadside attractions.
When it comes time to slow down, the E55 brings the Sensotronic brake system from the SL55 to the party, with 14.2 inch front and 13.0 inch rear rotors and eight-piston front brake calipers.
Flawed and devastatingly quick, the Mercedes E55 has set a new benchmark for outright speed, by quite a margin.

So I bought an Acura TL-S. When the new E55 came out in 2003 I thought, "Well maybe in a few of years I could buy a used one for significantly less." I knew that the demand was high, especially considering it was the newly crowned fastest sedan on the road.

Neither flaunts its prowess, but both are among the quickest four-doors in the world: the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG being the modern matriarch when it comes to high-performance sedans; and the Audi RS 6, the most powerful road car the manufacturer has ever produced, and a serious threat to the Benz's rule.
In the rear-drive E55, there is a 5.439-litre supercharged V8; in the all-wheel drive RS 6, a 4.172-litre bi-turbo V8.
In its favour, the RS 6 has heated rear seats, door-window sunblinds, a manhole through to the boot and split-folding backrests – none of which are found standard on the Mercedes.

 The Car Connection - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG - Everything greatness needs.
The E55 AMG version takes that basic E-Class formula and moves everything - power, torque, braking and handling - up a notch or two, to the point where it has become the quickest sedan in Mercedes history, lighter than the S55 and CL55 that share this same mighty blower engine.
Where all previous generations of the E sedan have had serious expressions on the faces of their instrument panels, dashboards and consoles, the new generation E55 is far more sporty, far more modern, more space-age than any previous E55 sedan.
The fact that all the suspension and steering mechanicals are hung from subframes, and that the E55 body is 18 percent stiffer in torsion, means quicker reactions, lots of isolation from the road, but not numbness or floatiness.
