E85 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
E85 is an alcohol fuel mixture of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, by volume.
E85 as a fuel is widely used in Sweden and is becoming increasingly common in the United States, mainly in the Midwest where corn is a major crop and is the primary source material for ethanol fuel production.
E85 has an octane rating of 105, which is higher than typical commercial gasoline mixtures (octane ratings of 85 to 95); however, it does not burn as efficiently in traditionally-manufactured internal-combustion engines.

E85 is the term for motor fuel blends of up to 85 percent ethanol and just 15 percent gasoline.
E85 is an alternative fuel as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Longer-term use of E85 in gasoline-only vehicles may cause damage because of the incompatibility of the alcohol fuel with the parts in gasoline-only engines.

E85 has a 100-plus octane rating, lessens our dependency on foreign oil, strengthens our nation's and state's economies and very often costs less at the pump than regular gasoline.
Although E85 has a lower BTU rating than unleaded gasoline and may reduce miles per gallon, most drivers are willing to accept this reduction since the price per gallon also is lower.

E85, using ethanol made in the USA from corn, isn't a science experiment or pipe dream.

Meanwhile E85 fuel is also been promoted by organisations such as the National Corn Growers Association, as well as regional and state corn growers organisations, associated agribusinesses and biofuel companies.
In the NEVC’s bylaws its purpose is described as to "ensure that as decisions regarding the future of America’s use of alternative forms of transportation fuels are being made, ethanol has a role in the nation’s alternative transportation fuel market and support the expanded use of ethanol" and to "advance legislative proposals" to this effect.
