CAS registry number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A CAS registry number is separated by hyphens into three parts, the first consisting of up to 6 digits, the second consisting of two digits, and the third consisting of a single digit serving as a check digit.
For example, the CAS number of water is 7732-18-5: the checksum is calculated as (8×1 + 1×2 + 2×3 + 3×4 + 7×5 + 7×6) = 105; 105 mod 10 = 5.
An example of a mixture with a CAS number is mustard oil (8007-40-7).

EC number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Enzyme Commission number (EC number) is a numerical classification scheme for enzymes, based on the chemical reactions they catalyze.
As a system of enzyme nomenclature, every EC number is associated with a recommended name for the respective enzyme.
Strictly speaking, EC numbers do not specify enzymes, but enzyme-catalyzed reactions.

 The MSDS HyperGlossary: EINECS
While EC numbers are unique to each chemical, their relatively limited scope (100,000 out of 19,000,000+ known chemicals) makes them far less useful than CAS numbers.
The CAS number and IUPAC name (if available) may also be helpful." EC numbers are required on labels in the EC.
EC numbers, or related classifications such as CAS, NSN/NIIN and UN/NA numbers, are not OSHA-required elements on an MSDS, but many users find these identifiers useful.

FHI - Experience from Recent or Ongoing Barrier Contraceptive Effectiveness Trials
While we expected the majority of EC requests would come directly to the study clinic, it was possible that a volunteer might request EC from another source, such as her GP or another family planning clinic, if she were away for a weekend or on vacation.
In order to incorporate EC use into the analysis of the primary endpoint (pregnancy), we defined a new statistic, the "EC-adjusted pregnancy rate." For each EC request, we added a fraction of a pregnancy corresponding to the probability of conception on the day of the cycle when the act of intercourse occurred.
With the limited number of pregnancies and EC requests observed in the pilot study, little further analysis was possible.

Antidumping Action in the United States and Around the World: An Analysis of International Data
If one assumes that the number of firms engaged in dumping is proportional to the number of firms exporting to the country, then the number of antidumping cases and measures should be roughly proportional to total imports of the country divided by its GDP.
Similarly, the latter is equal to the number of active measures the country had on December 31, 1995, divided by the country's average annual ratio of imports to GDP from 1991 through 1995.
Consequently, if one expects the number of antidumping measures that one country maintains against another to be roughly proportional to the amount that it imports from that country, the United States should have more antidumping measures against the rest of the world than the rest of the world maintains against the United States.

USING CATALYTIC RESIDUE CONSERVATION FOR FUNCTION ASSIGNMENT
Extending the EC number to the fourth digit, 60% of EC numbers in the PDB are in the iCSA.
Assigning the fourth digit of the EC number using iCSA would be more difficult because CSA catalytic sites do not include residues that bind substrate without taking part in the mechanism, and the fourth digit of the EC often describes the substrate specificity of the enzyme.
When transferring EC number from parent to homologue, there is a greater chance of the inference being correct if the site residues are conserved in the homologue.

The words to the left of the bottom EC number is the name of that enzyme.
All of these groupings are made according to the function of the enzyme, so all enzymes with an EC number that begins with "1" will be oxidoreductases, all enzymes with an EC number beginning with "1.3" will act on the CH-CH groups of donors, and so on.

It is more difficult to decide which chain(s) of a protein belong to a given EC number.
For example, it is far from trivial to decide whether two homologous clusters of enzymes with the same EC number have binding sites similar enough to permit their merger.
