WILLIMANTIC, CT - First-year Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) came off the bench in the second half to score her first career goal and lead the Amherst College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday.
ECSU, ranked seventh in New England, falls to 2-3 while the Jeffs improve to 2-2 on the year.
Junior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) gave Amherst the lead with eight seconds remaining in the first half with a goal, her third of the year, from 20 yards out that sailed over the ECSU keeper’s head.

 NC Catalyst - ECSU
The ECSU School of Education has been awarded the NC Catalyst Grant, which is an initiative of The Division of University School Programs for The University of North Carolina.
As part of the NC Catalyst Proposal, ECSU was one of the first UNC universities to implement this grant with (NCCAT) The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
It was a wonderful time of reflection, collaboration and “team building” among our ECSU faculty, Chowan College faculty, College of the Albemarle faculty and our LEA cooperative teachers, as we retreated to the mountains of North Carolina.

Metro ECSU is a nonprofit organization that received a majority of its funding from state and federal grants through the Minnesota Department of Education.
The department may have used the grant to Metro ECSU as a way to accomplish project objectives in a less restrictive environment, rather than administer it through the department, where it would be subject to state policies and procedures.
These decisions were made solely by the Executive Director of Metro ECSU after negotiations between representatives of the Department who presented themselves as, and had evidence of, being authorized to conduct such negotiations on behalf of the Department, and the Executive Director of Metro ECSU (Tom Baldwin, former Executive Director).

O'Dell is now head of the mathematics department at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, a position she took after ECSU administrators told her on Nov. 9, 1993, that her $37,000 a year contract as an associate professor would not be renewed this year.
O'Dell has submitted to ECSU officials an inch-thick folder of legal documents to support her plea for reinstatement, claiming that the contract decision came after almost a year of bickering between O'Dell, who is white, and faculty administrators at the predominantly fl university.
When Carol Kerr, another white female ECSU professor, was fired in a separate, racially tinted faculty controversy last year, O'Dell went to bat for her and helped Kerr prepare a legal defense that ultimately won Kerr's reinstatement.

ECSU currently offers pre-medicine and pre-dentistry concentrations within its biology major and also offers a biotechnology minor.
ECSU students interested in pursuing the doctor of pharmacy degree would receive their coursework from UNC-Chapel Hill at ECSU.
UNC-Chapel Hill would be the degree-granting institution for the Pharm.D. Upon graduation, ECSU students will have completed all requirements for a Pharm.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill, with about half of the credits earned while at Elizabeth City and the eastern region AHEC.

Packed in a narrow laboratory in ECSU's Jenkins Science Center is a microgravity chamber the students are using to conduct tests on live human brain tissue.
Ericka Shaw, 20, an ECSU junior, said she has experienced more hands-on learning in the short time the program has been running this summer than she has in her other lab classes.

Carolyn Mahoney, vice chancellor for academic affairs at ECSU, described the pharmacy plan during the campus' first-ever "Explore ECSU" event held Wednesday in the Fine Arts Complex.
In the state's 2003-04 budget, ECSU is expected to receive the $4.3 million it is requesting to build the necessary buildings for the pharmacy program and pay for additional faculty, Mahoney said.
ECSU officials estimated the stand-alone pharmacy school would cost $25 million to build, and $4.5 million to $5 million to operate.

WILLIMANTIC, CT - The Amherst College women's soccer team scored twice in an 11-minute span early in the match and held on for its third straight win, a 4-2 decision at non-league foe Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday in a battle of regionally-ranked teams.
Amherst (3-0), ranked third in New England, scored twice to take a 2-0 lead into the 15th minute on goals by Cathy Poor and Lee Jay Henry and extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal by Sara Elkins in the 28th minute.
With ECSU (5-1-1) threatening in the second half, Amherst first-year Tracy Montigny pounced on a loose ball in the ECSU zone, evaded a trio of defenders and unleashed a 25-yard blast that clipped the crossbar and found the net to cap the scoring.
