ECW was owned by Todd Gordon until 1996 when he sold it to Paul Heyman, who had been very involved in the organization since it's start.
ECW ran shows mostly in Philadelphia and was syndicated on television by various stations before it was brought to TNN in 1999.
ECW was taking big financial risks by promoting the show in California and felt that XPW was just a small indy fed who was trying to get themselves over at ECW's expense.

Since around mid-1997, many of ECW's hardcore followers have contended that the fed, once known for it's cutting edge storylines and hardcore violent matches, had lost it's edge and didn't have the appeal that it once had.
They said that ECW needed new blood and needed new storylines to be able to refresh itself and to catch up with the newly hardcore WWF.
And now with the fans giving good reviews on their latest ECW PPV, it now seems that 1999 will be the year that ECW comes back on top and gets back into the race again.

Joey Styles will forever be known as "The Voice of ECW.” From June 1993 through January 2001, Styles hosted and performed play-by-play duties for ECW’s pay-per-views, television programs, home videos and video games.
On April 13, 1997 at ECW Barely Legal, he became the first announcer ever to call a live pay-per-view broadcast on his own with no color commentators; Styles would then call seven subsequent pay-per-views alone as well.
Following the demise of ECW in January 2001, Styles left the sports-entertainment industry until WWE invited him to host the ECW One Night Stand pay-per-view on June 12, 2005.
