ECW World Heavyweight Championship - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The belt was known as the NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship from 1992 to 1994.
ECW declared bankruptcy on April 11, 2001, with the then-champion, Rhino, joining the WWF.
During his WWF tenure, Rhino was recognized as the final ECW World Heavyweight Champion, and notably at the 2005 ECW One Night Stand event he was heralded as the final champion as well; however, he did not appear with the title at the event, and was not referred to as the "current" champion.

World Wrestling Entertainment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mondt and McMahon wanted Rogers to keep the NWA World Championship, but Rogers was unwilling to sacrifice his $25,000 deposit on the belt (title holders at the time had to pay a deposit to insure they would honor their commitments as champion).
Rogers lost the NWA World Championship to Lou Thesz in a one-fall match in Toronto, Ontario on January 24, 1963, which led to Mondt, McMahon and the CWC leaving the NWA in protest, creating the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) in the process.
This meant that the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship was downgraded (was no longer a world title) and was renamed the WWWF Heavyweight Title, though the WWWF champions during this NWA Membership were recognized retroactively as World Champions by WWE today.
