EDIF - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
EDIF originated from a discussion of three men, who envisioned a common, neutral format from which all the other formats could be derived, and began work on this neutral format.
EDIF was mainly supported by the electronics design end-users, and their companies.
In designing EDIF 3 0 0, the committees were well aware of the faults of the language, the calumny heaped on EDIF 2 0 0 by the vendors and the frustration of the end users.

Established in 1994, today the Edif Group is a leader in the Marche region of Italy in the sector of civilian and industrial electrical supplies and is gaining ground on the market in the area of central Italy.
Over the years, Edif has won a leading position by making use of advanced IT and management systems, and felt that it was of strategic importance to respond to such changes.
In the near future Edif plans to automate all of its other warehouses with Datalogic's systems to be able to take full advantage of the RF benefits on a Group level.

Because an EDIF netlist may be hierarchical (i.e., represent many layers of circuitry), the unique identifier for the cell instance often includes a path name for defining the cell instance within the design hierarchy.
Generally, the hierarchical nature of the EDIF format, its LISP-like syntax, and the inherent complexity of many circuit designs combine to form an EDIF netlist that is very complicated and difficult for a human to read, unless the user is very familiar with the design or experienced with the EDIF format.
The EDIF files 312 may be input to the physical layout system 322 for such operations as routing and mask generation.

The EDIF standard is managed by the IEEE, and is well documented in a publication by the governing organization of the standard - American National Standard ANSI/EIA-548-1988.
The first step in the EDIF Import process is to identify if the data to be imported is to be treated as a new project or an update to an existing project.

The EDIF (Electronic Design Interchange Format) Schematic Format is a universal schematic format developed by the Electronic Industries Alliance.
There are three common versions of EDIF in use, with EDIF 2 0 0 and 3 0 0 being the most common in use, as they are the most common format written out by ECAD software.
EDIF 4 0 0 is supported in graphical mode only, and is slated to be fully supported with hierarchical support in future releases of CAMCAD.

EDIF import into Orcad 10.3 problem - OrCAD Community
I'm using EDIF ver 2 0 0 export from Design Architect, but whenever i import it all the busses are getting smashed down to nets.
And the tool within Design Architect has changed from "esiwrite: EDIF200 Writer" to "MGC EDIF 2 0 0 Schematic Writer." I can't go back to the old version of Design Architect, but given that it worked better before it seems like its probably an export option that is being missed now.
Comparing the format/syntax of the early EDIF to the latest EDIF, it looks pretty similar, however it looks like the new one uses a lot of different "constant" names.
