The implication here is that 20 years after Edsa, with all its squandered opportunities and dashed hopes, there has suddenly emerged a justification for the obliteration not only of the legacy of the revolution, but of people power itself.
If we hark back to the memory of Edsa, it is because we hark back to that singular moment of history in which we drew forth from the power of our solidarity and used that power to change things for the better.
Edsa is an ideal and a hope we should continue to embrace.

Edsa Introduction (EDSA: The Original People Power Revolution by Angela Stuart-Santiago)
EDSA was about ordinary people in great numbers who dared to confront, unarmed, the military might of the dictator and discovered in the process their mind-boggling powers when united by a common goal.
In fact, EDSA was wrought by People Power, which was made flesh by the martial law regime when it jailed, and then made a martyr of, opposition leader Beningno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr.
EDSA was the climactic and final chapter of that fierce rivalry between Marcos and Ninoy which saw the widow Cory rising triumphant on a glorious wave of People Power.

 1986 EDSA Revolution Summary
Also known as the EDSA Revolution, the uprising was in reaction to the massive fraud and violence unleashed by the government to ensure that Marcos and vice presidential candidate Arturo Tolentino would win the so-called snap elections that Marcos had called earlier that month.
While the EDSA Revolution is almost universally acknowledged as a great example of democracy at work, many political scientists and sociologists have commented that the Philippines has largely failed to actualize the possible gains from a fresh change in government, including the new constitution.
EDSA II resulted in the downfall of Estrada's administration, the extreme polarization of Philippine society, and the dilution of the concept of "People Power".

 Edsa 101
This may explain why "Edsa 1986" sometimes comes across as an educational video, with animated scenes illustrating salient points (such as the analogy of the confluence of events with a mango ripening), and using what the producers call "an MTV-type program format," including a snazzy "hip-hop" score.
As the producers explain, another objective was to acknowledge the roles played by people they called the "real heroes" of Edsa, individuals who played their parts in anonymity, content to let the spotlight shine on the principals.
What makes viewing "Edsa 1986" a bittersweet experience, at least for this Edsa survivor, is the realization that the high hopes that swelled in everyone's hearts during those four days have been dashed to pieces today, 20 years after.
