EIA is significant historically because it is the first disease of horses proven to be caused by a “filterable virus”—one that can survive a special laboratory filtering procedure and remain infectious.
The horse with chronic EIA is the classic “swamper” who has lost condition, is lethargic and anorexic, has a low hematocrit, and demonstrates a persistent decrease in the number of blood platelets, especially coincident with fever induced by EIAV.
Diagnosis of EIA and of infections with EIAV was not possible until an effective test for antibodies specific to EIAV was described in 1970 by Leroy Coggins.

Lecture notes on Environmental Impact Assessment
EIA should be envisaged as an integral part of the planning process and initiated at the project level from the start.
The regulation governing EIA should indicate as clearly as possible which projects are subjected to EIA procedure and which are not, so as to avoid bureaucratic constrains on minor activities.
If it is felt that the requirement for EIA would change with time, it may be appropriate to make only a general statement in the body of the legislation and keep the specifics for supplementary guidelines or regulations.

EIA - First workshop - EIA for urban areas
EIA is usually applied in support of policies for a more rational and sustainable use of resources in achieving economic development (Clark, 1989).
EIA systems are often not linked to urban environmental policies which have as main goal the improvement of the quality of the urban environment.
EIA should be used to make sure that the goals of the urban environmental policy are taken into account in the decision-making process.

EIA is one of the successful policy innovations of the 20th Century for environmental conservation.
Typically, the EIA process begins with screening to ensure time and resources are directed at the proposals that matter environmentally and ends with some form of follow up on the implementation of the decisions and actions taken as a result of an EIA report.

The Physician and Sportsmedicine: Exercise-Induced Asthma
Although the exact prevalence of EIA in athletes is unknown, prevalence varies by sport, from 12% of basketball players (4) to 55% of cross-country skiers (5).
However, EIA can also occur in people who have chronic asthma and may not be aware that their symptoms during exercise are a manifestation of asthma.
Because the treatments for EIA and chronic asthma are different, it is imperative that every new patient with asthma symptoms be assessed with either peak expiratory flow rates or baseline pulmonary function tests to determine whether the asthma is chronic or exercise induced (6).

The first reported case of EIA was in 1979 by Maulitz and coworkers and was food-related, occurring in a 31-year-old patient who had ingested shellfish prior to long-distance running.
Ten of these patients had onset of EIA in their teenage years, indicating that those who care for pediatric patients should be aware of this syndrome.
Inherent in the definition of food-dependent EIA is that the food or exercise alone does not produce symptoms.

The main principles for the compilation of the General EIA Guideline Book are: 1) to comply with the Vietnamese legislative and regulatory framework on EIA; and 2) to merge with EIA trends in South-East Asia, as well as in the world.
The five steps of the current EIA procedure are derived from the existing legislation and regulatory documents: screening; preparation of a preliminary EIA report for projects for which an EIA report needs to be established; preparation of a report to guarantee that environmental standards are met; preparation of a detailed EIA report; EIA appraisal.
The current disadvantages of the EIA process in Vietnam were identified and the proposed EIA process served as a constructive base for discussion to improve EIA practice in Vietnam.

Of course, EIA had no special insight into when the first hint of winter weather would occur, making it more difficult to predict monthly average prices for October, November, or even December.

Pew Center Assessment of new EIA Analysis of Amended Climate Stewardship Act (June 2004)
The Pew Center on Global Climate Change has examined EIA’s analysis of SA.2028 and finds it to be consistent with its earlier approach.  However, it is still primarily driven by the underlying key assumptions that result in unrealistically high cost projections.
EIA’s assumptions result in an high baseline case which widens the apparent gap that must be closed to comply with SA 2028, and thereby increases EIA’s cost projection.
In contrast to EIA’s emissions reduction pathway through fuel switching, in the MIT analysis, greater efficiency and reductions in non-CO GHGs lead to far less pressure on the electricity sector.  With these assumptions, MIT predicts a reduction in natural gas prices compared to the baseline case, and coal use remaining stable at current levels.
