On 21 June 2005, Emap acquired 21 radio stations from its purchase of Scottish Radio Holdings.

The EMAP Western Pilot (Western EMAP) is a five-year effort (1999-2003) by EPA Regions 8, 9, and 10 in partnership with States, Tribes and other parties to advance the science of aquatic ecosystem health monitoring and to demonstrate the applicability and usefulness of EMAP indicators in environmental assessments.
Western EMAP is intended to demonstrate the value of monitoring based on a randomized design in the western United States by applying these techniques to assessment questions of regional and state interest.
EMAP uses a statistical sampling design based on a systematic grid, which provides uniform spatial coverage and ensures that each ecological resource is sampled in proportion to its geographical presence.

Emap has given its French business 18 months to stage a turnaround amid speculation that bidders are eyeing the media group's foothold in continental Europe.

Mr Moloney said Emap had no plans to sell the business, which accounts for a quarter of group revenues and hit difficulties last year when sales of its profitable TV listings magazines were damaged by two new entrants.

Emap's Miller, explaining the company's exit from the U.S., said: "As a specialist consumer magazine publisher with approximately 3 percent of the U.S. market, Emap USA has been increasingly disadvantaged in terms of its position with wholesalers and the retail trade."

In 2003, Coastal EMAP moved offshore to sample the continental shelf habitat at depths between 30 and 120 meters off the shore of Oregon and Washington, to see these maps, - see the Regional portion of this webpage.
EMAP was able to sample 71 stations in Puget Sound rather than the usual 50 locations, due to savings gained by using sediment data gathered as part of a similar project.
EMAP revisited some of those locations to collect water column measurements and to trawl for fish.
