Looking at EMD's worm-like yellow and brown Union Pacific M-10000, its gleaming stainless steel Burlington Zephyr, or the boxy, just-plain-ugly early Santa Fe units, it's apparent that here was a new function looking for its form.
With the E6, EMD settled on a standardized passenger unit and began to produce it in large quantities.
The E6 was the last passenger diesel to sport the beautiful, rakish, streamlined EMD nose so characteristic of the 1930s.

EMD built 948 GP30s over the following two years, from April 1962 (DandRGW 3001 was the first) to November 1963 (one order each to LandN and Southern), of which UP's 152 were part.
Numbered as UP 700B-739B, these 40 units were the only GP30Bs completed by EMD, and were delivered between March and July 1963.

Template:Infobox Locomotive The EMD AB6 was a diesel locomotive type built exclusively for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (the "Rock Island Line") by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division and delivered in June 1940.
The Rock Island desired a locomotive which could look like an integrated part of the train during the Chicago-Limon portion of the route, but could then be driven independently to take 3 cars to Colorado Springs.
Since the small 3 and 4 car trains the units would have to haul independently were very light, the AB6 pair were built with only one 1,000 hp EMD 567 V12 engine, and a baggage compartment where the second engine would have been.
