EMD AB6 — a unique cab-equipped booster built for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.
Cowl units, originally produced at the request of the Santa Fe, had a full-width 'cowl' body built on a hood unit frame which provided all the structural strength; the bodywork was cosmetic, rather than a load-bearing bridge truss frame as in cab units.
The vast majority were EMD engines and components inside a carbody built by another manufacturer, since EMD did not have the ability to build their own bodies until 1936.

EMD 645 - QuickSeek Encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The EMD 645 is a line of diesel engines built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division.
Each cylinder is of 645 in³ (10.57 l) displacement, hence the name; the bore is 9.1 in (231 mm) and the stroke is 10 in (254 mm), and the compression ratio is 14.5:1.
The 645 succeeded EMD's earlier 567 series and was in turn replaced by the 710 series, but it is still sold and maintained by EMD for both locomotive, marine and stationary engine use.

General Electric now is the major player in the locomotive business but EMD is still a strong factor with a great track record of innovation and reliability.
Until the advent of the phenomenally successful SD40 family of EMD six axle locomotives in 1966, the bulk of the domestic diesel freight fleet was comprised of 4 axle units.
There is a greater variety of 4 axle EMD units on local railroads and more older units are still in service.

Atlas Model Railroad Co. - EMD GP39/39-2 by TOWER 55 ???
Throw in the different nose lengths, the different fan spacings, the different step well styles, the different door arrangements and the reality is that other than the chassis length the various GP39-2s (and GP39) didn't share many common features at all (and thus would be a far more complex and costly project to do)...
If OMI makes a production run of (say)1500 of a given GE or EMD loco and expects preproduction orders for that many units(with a nonrefundable deposit to boot) then they will not get one order from me regardless..I simply won't play that game.
